Job summary Band 6/7 Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinical Nurse Specialist Monday-Friday/flexible hours/no weekends. This is a fixed-term/secondment opportunity for 12 months to cover maternity leave. Can be offered as a Band 6-7 developmental role if not currently working at Band 7 level Works as an expert in clinical field to deliver specialist clinical services to patients with inflammatory bowel disease. Provides specialist, interdisciplinary education and training to other staff and students. Clinically manages and engineers the pathway for patients with inflammatory bowel disease. Works strategically to influences the development of the service both locally and nationally. Leads clinical audits in own area. Participates in /facilitates/ undertakes research in specialist field. We would encourage any candidate to visit our office and spend some time with the team. Main duties of the job 1. Holds own defined caseload. 2. Communicates complex, sensitive information effectively and empathetically to patients and relatives. Maintains personally generated observations in records. 3. Assesses, develops and implements evidence based specialist nursing care programmes, pathways and advice for patients and relatives. 4. Work as an expert practitioner in inflammatory bowel conditions acting as a resource for other interdisciplinary healthcare professions. Maintains a high profile in the clinical area, acting as a role model for good practice. 5. Works with professional groups and other agencies in both primary and secondary healthcare settings. Assumes a central role in problem solving and service co-ordination to ensure patients and carers receive high standards of seamless quality care. 6. Works with non-specialist interdisciplinary practitioners to compliment their care, and the quality of the service provided. 7. When appropriate, participates in the establishment /running of nurse-led clinics. When trained, undertakes diagnostic and therapeutic procedures pertinent to specialist role. 8. Actively participates in interdisciplinary meetings. 9. Acts on clinical incidents pertinent to area, to reduce clinical risk.
