Clinical Fellow in Learning Disabilities

Delivering health and well-being outcomes for the following groups are key priorities for us:
1. People with profound and multiple learning disabilities.
2. People who present behaviours of concern and are at risk of hospital admission.
3. People with a Learning Disability who require optimisation of their medication in line with the national Stopping Overmedication of People with Learning Disability and/or Autism (STOMP) agenda.
4. People with a learning disability and mental health problems whose needs cannot be met by other services with reasonable adjustments.
5. People with a learning disability and autism whose needs cannot be met by other services with reasonable adjustments.
6. People with a learning disability and dementia whose needs cannot be met by other services with reasonable adjustments.
The Current Team comprises of the following Professional Groups:
* Specialty Doctor (Vacant)
* Resident Doctor (CT1-3)
* 1 General Manager
* 1 Service Manager
* 1 Advanced Clinical Practitioner trainee
* Clinical Pathway Lead (Matron)
* Community Nurses
* Allied Health Professionals including Speech & Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists.
* Support Workers
* Administrative staff
There are no doctors currently in training within the service, however there are plans being made to develop training posts.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Has achieved MBChB or equivalent medical qualification.
* Satisfactory completion of F1 & F2 or equivalent or completion of core training in psychiatry.
* Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of starting the post.
* Distinctions, scholarships, prizes.
* Experience of research.
* Experience of Foundation training.
* 24 months of continuous service with the NHS (F1 & F2 years).
Knowledge
* Competence in basic clinical procedures.
* Able to prioritise clinical need, time and workload.
* Aware of own limitations.
* Understands the principles of patient confidentiality and data protection.
* Understand the importance of working effectively in teams.
* Ability to assess, recognise and initiate management of the acutely ill patient and play an effective part in advanced life support.
* Understanding of the basic principles of audit and clinical governance.
* Ability to undertake a full psychiatric assessment including mental state examination.
* Understands the criteria for diagnostic categories for common mental disorders.
* Knowledge of UK health systems, practices and values; awareness of current issues in the NHS.
* Understands the importance & impact of information systems in health care.
* Ability to practice evidence-based medicine.
* Evidence of continuous professional development.
* Contributes to teaching and learning of others.
