In the UK, Safran Seats specialises solely in the First Class and Business Class seating markets for wide body aircraft, with industrial and engineering teams in Cwmbran and Newport, Wales and Brackley, England.
The purpose of this role is to lead a Programme Focused Stress Team, Evaluation Cost, Planning and Task Allocation. Reviewing, Evaluating and Maintaining technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities
1. Required working knowledge of Aerospace regulations FAR/CS 25-561, EASA Part 21 J, ARP 5526 and Airframer specifications.
2. Be familiar with all aspects of Aerospace engineering techniques.
3. Thoroughly plan and manage all stress activities for a specific program.
4. Manage a team of highly technically trained stress engineers to ensure tasks are completed to requirements, of time, cost and quality.
5. In-depth working knowledge of aerospace industry standard stress analysis methods covering both hand calculations, linear/non-linear implicit FE analysis and/or multi-body dynamic analysis and/or non-linear explicit FE analysis methods.
6. Ensure that the risk of a certification test failure is managed effectively and minimised with the use of appropriate analytical methods and judgement.
7. Review and approve hand calculations, linear static, non-linear, crash, multi-body dynamic and optimisation FE models for seating products to support the design and certification process, plus the in-service life of the product.
8. Review and approve stress and structural documentation to submit for internal/external customers and regulatory approval.
9. Review and approve drawings, designs, concessions and repairs with respect to stress.
10. Support the Design team in ensuring that products meet cost and weight targets.
11. Where structural issues are identified ensure appropriate improvements have been recommended and alternate solutions assessed ensuring the optimum solution is identified.
12. Leading/driving root cause analysis (e.g. 8D/Ishikawa).
Travel specificity
Occasional travel nationally, but rarely internationally.
Candidate skills & requirements
Minimum - 2:1 Bachelors (Honours) degree or equivalent in Mechanical/Aerospace/Structural Engineering.
Preferably - MEng or PhD with specialism in FEA, simulation, dynamics, materials and/or structures. Degree accredited with IMechE. CEng status.
10 years+ working in Aerospace or comparable industry.
Experience of working to industry standards and codes. Knowledge of Part 25 (EASA/FAA) and Boeing / Airbus specifications. Knowledge of ACs, ARPs and Aerospace Standards.
Proficient in root cause analysis (4D/8D/Ishikawa)
