THE BUSINESS
Westray Recruitment Group is seeking to recruit an experienced R&D Manager (Electro-Mech) to work for our client based in County Durham.
You will lead and oversee the design, development, and validation of cable management and power products. Managing and optimising the design, testing, and conformity processes to ensure high-quality products are developed or sourced efficiently. Providing leadership in mechanical and electrical engineering and testing, while upholding the company’s professionalism and ethics. Collaborating closely with Quality, Production, Industrialisation, and Marketing, as well as external suppliers, driving innovation and efficiency.
THE ROLE
* Lead the research, design, development, and validation of new products and enhance existing designs through value engineering.
* Ensure the production and maintenance of technical files to meet UK Regulations and EU directives.
* Oversee the specification and development of next-generation power and cable management products, ensuring alignment with marketing requirements and compliance with the latest National and International standards.
* Implement and monitor design and development procedures in accordance with ISO9001 and ECO design policy.
* Coordinate with the Industrialisation department to ensure designs are practical and cost-effective for production.
* Manage testing, test reporting, and safety protocols in the test facility, ensuring product compliance.
* Collaborate with marketing to ensure the technical accuracy of catalogues and technical manuals.
* Provide strategic guidance to the Purchasing department for sourcing parts from external suppliers.
* Support and mentor the technical team on electrical and mechanical matters related to company products.
* Utilize and promote the use of 2D and 3D CAD software in design processes.
* Champion and uphold Legrand Group Values and Code of Ethics.
THE PERSON
* Educated to Degree/HND level in an electrical or related engineering discipline.
* Membership in the IET, IMechE, or equivalent engineering/technical institution is preferred.
* In-depth knowledge of UK Wiring Regulations and relevant national and international standards.
* Proven ability to plan and manage complex product development projects and type testing programs.
* Extensive experience with Power Distribution and/or Cable Management Products.
* Advanced competence in AUTOCAD/INVENTOR and/or others 3-D Modelling systems.
* Strong IT skills, including proficiency in spreadsheets, engineering databases, and presentation tools.
* Excellent communication skills for effective interaction at all levels within and outside the company.
* Self-motivated with strong leadership skills.
* Ability to lead and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. A team of 4
* Willingness to travel within and outside the UK as required.
* Experience with ISO 17025 test facility requirements is highly preferred.
* Significant experience in mechanical design and testing within a low voltage cable management or power distribution product manufacturing environment.
* Proven track record of testing and reporting in an ISO 17025 accredited test facility is preferred.
