Job summary The Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust wish to appoint a suitably experienced and motivated Locum Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon to join our Breast Team. Currently we have five breast surgeons (four surgeons have a special interest in oncoplastic breast surgery). The successful candidate will have a special interest in breast and oncoplastic surgery. The Trust has two sites for out-patient and elective surgical activity at New Cross Hospital and Cannock Chase Hospital. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in delivering services on both sites. Main duties of the job In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to provide a service in the Breast Team. To provide cover for Consultant and Senior colleagues in respect of periods of leave. To ensure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of your patients to be able to contact you when necessary. The post-holder will contribute to the General Surgery service, including elective theatres and clinics. As a tertiary cancer centre, the breast team treats circa 500 new breast cancers per annum, participate in the Breast Screening Service and carry out approximately 180 oncoplastic procedures per year. Apart from routine breast operations and sentinel node biopsy we perform a wide range of oncoplastic procedures. These include therapeutic mammoplasty including contralateral breast reduction, lipomodelling, Skin and nipple sparing mastectomy, skin reducing mastectomy, Implant based immediate breast reconstruction including use of acellular dermal matrix and Extended Latissimus dorsi flap reconstruction and perforator flaps (e.g. LICAP flap). The team is enthusiastic in audit and clinical research and have had several presentations in national and international meetings and publications in peer reviewed journals.
