We currently have an opportunity for a Capital Carbon Specialist to join our team based in Exeter. Joining us on a full-time permanent basis, you will receive a competitive salary of £50,000 - £60,000 per annum plus excellent benefits. About the role As our Capital Carbon Specialist, you will contribute to the coordination and development of South West Water’s approach to capital carbon measurement, assessment and reporting. These are primarily the greenhouse gas emissions resulting from our planned capital programme. As well as capital carbon there are additional needs to measure/estimate embodied emissions from all the products we procure and the emissions resulting from the upstream and downstream activities of our contracted services.You will be comfortable working under pressure and be able to combine both technical and commercial aspects to drive from concept to business case through to implementation and sustained performance. You will also have excellent stakeholder engagement skills, working with delivery partners and be able to engage in matrix working across a wide range of interdisciplinary departments.
What you’ll be doing:
1. To assist in driving our structured approach to developing lower carbon solutions by design, as well as ensuring the construction and subsequent operation of our asset base minimises carbon emissions using a ‘whole life’ assessment approach
2. Promoting low carbon solutions, by designing development of low carbon processes, ‘no build’ or nature-based options that meet the needs of the business
3. Keeping up to date and be the subject matter expert on the accounting and reporting principles of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol including; PAS2080, ISO 14064 and Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR)
4. Liaise with South West Water’s Asset Management Team in embedding carbon emissions data capture and carbon assessments for strategic planning, such as the 2024 Price Review (PR24)
5. Provide quality communications to promote the company’s activities and achievements in low carbon solutions, using emissions reports, charts, analytical assessments to help with the strategic management and communication of capital carbon emissions outputs.
What we are looking for:
6. Educated to degree standard or equivalent
7. Strong technical understanding of lower carbon solutions and of carbon accounting and management
8. Able to solve complex issues through critical thinking and forensic analysis
9. Able to deal with external suppliers, regulators and stakeholders at all levels
10. Strong and demonstrable numeric and analytical skills
11. Strong presentation skills, with the ability to produce material to a high quality and for Senior Management/Executive/Director level audiences
