TPF Recruitment is delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a Top 15 accountancy firm in London for an experienced VAT Manager. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing VAT advisory team, working with a diverse range of clients across multiple industries, including Not-for-Profit (NFP), Recruitment, Corporate Finance, Media, and International businesses.
This role is primarily advisory-focused, with occasional involvement in VAT compliance. You will work closely with senior VAT professionals, managing client relationships, handling complex VAT matters, and supporting the growth of the team.
Key Responsibilities
VAT Advisory
Managing a portfolio of clients, ensuring all deadlines are met, and work is completed efficiently.
Providing VAT advice across various industries, with a focus on property, NFP, and international VAT matters.
Reviewing contracts and advising on appropriate VAT treatment.
Handling HMRC queries, disputes, and penalty negotiations.
Assisting with partial exemption special methods and business/non-business apportionments.
Conducting VAT health checks and inspections for clients.
Supporting senior VAT professionals on large, complex VAT advisory projects.
VAT Compliance (Occasional Involvement)
Reviewing VAT returns prepared by compliance staff.
Assisting with VAT registrations, de-registrations, and group VAT arrangements.
Internal & External Collaboration
Working closely with other departments to provide VAT support on corporate transactions and restructuring.
Managing internal referrals and supporting colleagues with VAT-related matters.
Attending client meetings, networking events, and seminars to build relationships and promote services.
Assisting in the preparation and presentation of new client proposals.
Training & Development
Providing VAT training to internal teams and junior staff.
Preparing marketing material on VAT initiatives, industry updates, and legislative changes.
Contributing to the firm's biweekly VAT meetings and weekly VAT updates.
Requirements
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Strong VAT advisory experience, ideally within a professional services firm.
Broad technical knowledge across property, NFP, international VAT, and corporate transactions.
Ability to explain complex VAT concepts in a clear and concise manner to clients and non-experts.
Experience dealing with HMRC investigations, VAT disputes, and compliance matters.
Excellent client relationship management skills.
Ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively with senior team members.
A commercial mindset with the ability to identify business development opportunities.
Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
