Project Engineer

This is a unique opportunity to join a leading Global Food Manufacturing Group undergoing an exciting period of transformation. The business is currently focused on standardising processes across its European operations, which has enabled them to introduce the role of Project Engineer who will be responsible for end-to-end project delivery.
About the Role
In this role, you’ll report to the Site Engineering Manager, working hands-on across all aspects of the project lifecycle—from scope to completion and everything in between. You will have full ownership of the site’s projects, managing each phase while working cross-functionally to ensure timely delivery. Projects range from continuous improvement initiatives to larger capital expenditure (CAPEX) upgrades.
With annual CAPEX investments averaging £1.5 million, the typical scope includes improvements to production lines, machinery upgrades, and small-scale redesigns. Additionally, you’ll play an integral part in larger scale projects and installations which are very much on the agenda which will likely be around £20m mark.
Working within a highly skilled and driven Engineering Department that includes a close-knit group of 11 engineers committed to proactive maintenance and continuous improvement. Thanks to their efforts, the facility now boasts 90% uptime—an impressive achievement compared to previous years.
Ideal Candidate Profile
We’re seeking a seasoned engineer with a background in Maintenance or Engineering Management, ideally from food, FMCG, or pharma environments. You’ll bring a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, a 24/7 mentality, and the ability to manage complexity and automation. Experience with chilled production environments is a plus, as the pace here is high. As the number 2 for all things Engineering, you will have relevant experience from within a management role and have the necessary drive and gravitas to progress to a more senior role within a 2 year period.
Key Qualities:
1. Leadership: Minimum 18 months in a supervisory or management role, capable of growing and mentoring an engineering team.
2. Project Ownership: Ability to take full responsibility for projects and bring them to completion autonomously.
3. Lean Techniques: Knowledge of Lean principles (e.g., SMED) and experience with OEE, TPM and continuous improvement methodologies.
4. Location: As occasional weekend attendance is required, candidates should live locally.
