RINA is currently recruiting for a Principal Social Consultant to join its office in Brighton within the ESG & Sustainability Division.
Mission
The Principal Social Consultant focuses on leading and overseeing comprehensive social impact assessments, developing robust social management plans, and fostering meaningful stakeholder engagement processes with a focus on complex projects.
Key Accountabilities
1. Lead Social Impact Assessments and Stakeholder Engagement Processes:
o Spearhead the design and execution of comprehensive social impact assessments (e.g. human rights impact assessment, supply chain assessment) to evaluate project effects on communities, cultures, and stakeholders.
o Facilitate inclusive and participatory stakeholder engagement initiatives to gather diverse perspectives, address concerns, and promote transparency.
2. Develop Comprehensive Social Management Plans:
o Oversee the development of robust social management plans (e.g. social impacts management plans), emphasizing social inclusion, community participation, and sustainable practices.
o Incorporate advanced mitigation measures and enhancement strategies to proactively address social impacts and optimize project outcomes.
3. Collaborate with Communities and Stakeholders:
o Forge and maintain strong partnerships with communities, local authorities, NGOs, and stakeholders to build trust and address social concerns collaboratively.
o Lead joint efforts to identify and implement context-specific measures that mitigate social risks and enhance project benefits.
4. Ensure Compliance with International Standards:
o Ensure the delivery of social consultancy services aligns with the highest international standards, regulations, and best practices.
o Provide expert guidance and strategic advice to clients on navigating complex environmental and social requirements throughout project lifecycles.
5. Support Proposal Preparation and Client Liaison:
o Drive the development of project proposals by leveraging advanced expertise in social and environmental standards, methodologies, and compliance.
o Cultivate and nurture client relationships by understanding their environmental and social sustainability objectives, offering tailored solutions and support.
6. Conduct Site Visits and Documentation Review:
o Undertake international travel to project sites for comprehensive on-site assessments, documentation review, and monitoring of environmental, health, safety, and social aspects.
o Effectively document findings, observations, and recommendations to inform decision-making processes and ensure compliance with standards.
7. Provide Strategic Direction in Project Management Tasks:
o Collaborate closely with project managers to monitor budgets, schedules, and deliverables related to environmental and social aspects, offering senior-level oversight and guidance.
o Champion the integration of environmental and social considerations into project planning and execution, contributing to the success of cross-functional teams.
Qualifications
* Extensive Experience: Demonstrated expertise in leading social impact assessments and stakeholder engagement processes for complex projects, showcasing a track record of designing, executing, and managing comprehensive assessments and initiatives.
* In-depth understanding of international standards, regulations, and best practices related to social impact assessments, stakeholder engagement, and sustainable development, with the ability to ensure compliance throughout project lifecycles.
* In-depth knowledge of international standards such as IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles, and UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
* At least 15 years’ work experience as well as prior 10+ years consulting experience.
