Amazon’s Retail business is looking for a Senior Category Manager to join our team as we continue our trajectory of growth and raising the bar in ecommerce for Australian customers. This role is multi-faceted in nature, working cross functionally with various teams including marketing, finance, supply chain, Amazon Ads, and our external supplier partners. You will be joining Amazon at a time where we are shaping the way that customers shop and buy online in Australia.
As a Senior Category Manager, you will be a passionate advocate for our customers and developing a category based on strong relationships with our supplier partners. Building long-term partnerships is fundamental to the growth of the business, and you will be successful in the role by building strategic relationships including with senior stakeholders at some of the largest suppliers in the market segment. There are still brands that are not yet present on Amazon.com.au: bringing them on the journey is important, building their trust and helping them understand the long-term incremental growth opportunities.
You will also hold a passion for Developing the Best. This role is an individual contributor but with dotted lines to the Brand Specialists that typically look after your most important suppliers. Nurturing and shaping their growth, as well as your peers, is not only important to the success of your category but also in helping shape the future talent at Amazon.
An Amazon Senior Category Manager also complements their investments in relationships and people with a sharp, analytical mind: being comfortable with a suite of metrics across multiple KPIs is a must, likewise is holding an affinity with complex analysis and making data-driven decisions. Adding structure to processes, creating rigorous mechanisms and understanding operational flows will be part and parcel of your role.
Key Job Responsibilities
A successful Amazon Senior Category Manager will:
1. Own and drive the category P&L, conducting thorough financial analysis of business opportunities to meet and exceed revenue and profitability targets.
2. Act as the primary new business developer for assigned categories/brands, maintaining comprehensive understanding of internal and external variables affecting the business, including forecasting, analysis, and reporting on prospecting, conversion, and terms negotiations.
3. Demonstrate deep industry knowledge by understanding seasonality, business trends/events, and continuously monitoring competitor/industry developments.
4. Drive selection expansion opportunities to maximize Amazon's business and financial profitability.
5. Champion customer needs through data-driven insights, advocating for and implementing site features that enhance the customer shopping experience.
6. Build and maintain strategic vendor relationships, serving as the primary point of contact for vendor onboarding and ensuring smooth transition to category teams.
7. Lead cross-functional collaboration, maintaining effective communication with internal and external stakeholders while meeting tight deadlines.
8. Be a determined learner and naturally curious; holding an interest in developing Amazon's ways of working such as document-led meetings and culture of high velocity decision making.
9. Problem solve both individually and as a team; working backwards from the customer.
10. Demonstrate strong organizational skills, effectively prioritizing tasks while simultaneously operating in both tactical and strategic modes.
11. Create an inclusive environment; actively seek diversity of thought; as well as coaching and developing members of the team.
12. Exhibit proficiency in using bespoke tools and systems.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience using data to influence business decisions
- 7+ years of Excel experience
- Experience driving direction and alignment with cross-functional teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- MBA
- Experience negotiating with internal and external stakeholders
- 7+ years of account management, project or program management or buying experience
