Our client is a leading New Zealand-owned international logistics company, handling imports and exports by land, air, and sea. Due to their continued growth and expansion, we are looking for an Export Oceanfreight Operator to share your skills with their dynamic team in Christchurch.
Purpose of the Position: The Export Oceanfreight Operator is responsible for coordinating and managing the end-to-end process for ocean freight shipments. The position involves consulting with customers, shipping lines, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure efficient and prompt handling of freight, ensuring the most cost-effective options are utilised while adhering to operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
* Prepare quotations, arrange cartage pick-ups from customers/suppliers.
* Book space with shipping lines and co-loaders, ensuring cost-effective options.
* Inform clients of booking details, collection cut-off times, and required paperwork.
Internal Coordination:
* Liaise with warehouse staff to keep them updated on shipment status.
* Communicate any specific storage or loading requirements.
External Coordination:
* Coordinate with consignors, consignees, and overseas agents.
* Obtain Proof of Delivery (POD) for DAP, DAT, or DDP consignments.
* Process invoices from overseas agents and domestic invoices related to shipments.
Skills and Experience We Are Looking For:
* Documentation Expertise: Ability to prepare and manage export documentation, including certificates for MPI health, phytosanitary, Free Trade Agreement, Origin, Permits/licenses, and any other relevant paperwork for specific shipments.
* Attention to Detail: Strong focus on accuracy and diligence to ensure that all documentation and shipments are correctly processed.
* Problem-Solving: Capable of addressing challenges as they arise and providing solutions promptly.
* Adaptability: Quick to learn new systems and proficient in Microsoft Suite.
* Communication & Organisational Skills: Exceptional active listening skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
* Calm Under Pressure: Able to work efficiently in high-pressure environments.
* Disposition: Friendly, approachable, and possessing a great sense of humour.
Preferred Experience (Not Essential):
* Previous experience in freight forwarding is desirable.
* UUI, E-cert, and experience with EDI/CargoWise would be favourable.
Additional Information:
* Occasional weekend work may be required on a rostered basis.
* Successful applicants will undergo a Ministry of Justice criminal record check.
* A minimum of a restricted car license is needed.
