Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust are looking for highly motivated qualified and newly qualified staff nurses to join our Gastroenterology ward (17) at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. The ward is a 24 mixed bedded unit that provides care for patients with Gastroenterology and General Medical conditions.
You will be joining a dedicated and enthusiastic nursing team who will help and support you whether you are starting out in your career or have years of experience under your belt.
Everyday within this role is different and offers the opportunity to deal with a variety of patient needs.

Main duties of the job
The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development and /or implementation and evaluation of programmes of care. As the role develops he/she will be expected to continue with their personal development both by attending appropriate courses
and day to day experience working on the ward, until they are able to be the designated person able to regularly take charge of the ward/department. They will then be expected to provide an effective, professional and managerial leadership focus, in the absence of the
ward manager or deputy.
• Is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care, maintaining a high standard of nursing care within the framework of Trust policies.
• Supervises qualified and/or unqualified staff.
• Teaches qualified and unqualified staff including basic and/or post basic students

Person specification
Skills, Abilities & Knowledge
Essential criteria
1. Good communication skills, ability to speak and write clearly in English
Desirable criteria
2. Competency in IV drug administration. Infusion pump skills
3. Computer literate able to complete assessments and discharge letters etc
4. Knowledge of up to date nursing issues
5. Extended role skills needed for work area Eg (not exhaustive list) Male catheterisation Passing NG tubes Cannulation ECG PICC lines Hickman Lines Managing tracheotomies
Experience
Essential criteria
6. Newly qualified RGN
Desirable criteria
7. Previous experience as shift/team leader
8. Previous experience in medical or gastroenterology
9. Experience of teaching students, HCA’s and qualified staff
10. Ability to work within a team and independently on own initiative
11. Able to co ordinate and manage team in ward sisters absence
12. Experience at holding unit bleep and managing HR issues in absence of head nurse/sister

13. Good general education

15. Mentorship and preceptor ship course.
