Job Description
CONTEXT
PPTD (Pricing, Product & Technology Development - formally Ignite) researches, develops, manufactures, and supports a large number of globally deployed machines and instruments for both internal and external customers across the diamond value chain, from rough diamond sorting to polished diamond verification for Consumer Confidence.
PPTD Technical Customer Services provide support for:
1. Technical sorting equipment in the form of:
1. Test/QA of new machines as part of Production process
2. Second line support for Technical Support Services (TSS) Global
3. First line support for local technical support teams i.e., technical staff based at the sorting centres
4. Spares and repairs strategy and coordination between local TSS and PPTD Technical Customer Services and supply chain departments
2. Diamond verification instruments in the form of:
1. Test/QA of new instruments as part of Production process
2. First line support from local technical support teams i.e., technical staff based at the IOD/FM sites.
3. Spares and repairs coordination between local IOD/FM support staff and Technical Customer Services and supply chain departments
3. To provide on-site and remote support services to all PPTD customers, internal and external commercial.
4. Where necessary, the role will require travel to the customer site to install or diagnose and repair PPTD technology.
5. Building, testing, QA & commissioning of new machines and instruments at Maidenhead.
6. Repair of return to base machines, instruments, or modules at Maidenhead.
Key Responsibilities:
Remote and on-site service and support
1. Provide remote assistance to customers for fault identification and resolution where possible.
2. Provide emergency support to any customer overseas sites as required: note that the ability to travel at short notice is important for this role.
3. Install new equipment at customer's premises, also providing training to customers where required.
4. Upgrade modules or instruments in the field with new hardware or software.
5. Perform preventative maintenance programmes and/or technical audits as requested to do so at customer sites.
6. Co-ordinate spares requirements with the other relevant staff within the Production department.
7. Log, monitor, progress and update customer service requests.
Return to base repair or upgrade of modules and instruments
1. Test electro-mechanical modules, components, PCBs and instruments to written procedures (or procedures agreed with the development teams).
2. Diagnose faults and carry out repairs in a structured way.
3. Keep records of faults and report on trends, making suggestions for improvements.
4. Upgrade modules or instruments with new hardware or software.
5. Co-ordinate return and repair logistics with other relevant staff within the Production department.
6. Log, monitor, progress and update customer service requests.
Prototype and production assembly
1. Produce prototype PCBs, wiring looms and harnesses.
2. Build, test and commission finished production machines and systems in accordance with design documentation.
3. Initiate change procedures if appropriate.
4. Work closely with the Purchasing Manager to ensure that any shortages are flagged and remedied.
Health and Safety
1. Ensure own working environment and practices comply with all Legal and De Beers UK policy guidelines in relation to Health, Safety and Environmental issues.
Travel
1. Can expect up to 30% travel.
2. May be called upon to travel to remote locations at short notice due to equipment failure impeding production.
Qualifications
1. Good general education
2. ONC / HNC in electronics, systems or control
3. Experience in a Test and Service environment
4. Experience in assembling mechanical and electromechanical assemblies.
5. Good communicator with strong customer focus / service skills
6. Full familiarity with manual test equipment (oscilloscopes, meters, analysers etc.)
7. Computer literate, ability to create technical documentation / procedures.
8. Conversant with computer programming fundamentals
9. Good team player
