The Heavy Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and management of all heavy plant equipment across Shorts Group. This includes ensuring that all machinery is maintained to the highest standards, operating efficiently, and complying with safety regulations. The machinery includes, but is not limited to, excavators and attachments, crushers, screeners, shredders, and forklifts.
Key Responsibilities
1. Responsible for scheduling work on a daily/weekly basis.
2. Ensure efficient use and optimal performance of plant equipment.
3. Develop and implement operational strategies to improve efficiency and productivity.
4. Create and manage maintenance schedules for proactive maintenance.
5. Manage repair activities and ensure timely resolution of issues.
6. Coordinate with external contractors for specialized maintenance and repairs.
7. Ensure all operations comply with health and safety regulations.
8. Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments.
9. Implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures.
10. Mentor, support, and where required, train a team of plant operators and technicians.
11. Manage engineers' scheduling and task assignments.
12. Build relationships and negotiate competitive rates with key suppliers.
13. Monitor inventory for consumables where required.
14. Work closely with other departments to align plant operations with overall company goals.
15. Communicate effectively with senior management and provide regular updates on plant performance.
16. Address and resolve operational issues in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
Personal Requirements
1. Proven experience as a Heavy Plant Manager or in a similar role.
2. Extensive knowledge of heavy plant machinery, including operation and maintenance.
3. Strong understanding of health and safety regulations.
4. Excellent leadership and team management skills.
5. Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
6. Proficient in using various software as well as Microsoft Office.
7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
