Job Overview
An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for an experienced, dynamic, and self-motivated registered nurse to help lead the nursing team and develop services in Interventional Radiology Theatres on the City site of NUH as Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse.
Main Duties of the Job
The successful candidate will support the Band 7 Sister to lead a team of staff to provide a high-quality service, ensuring excellent standards of patient care are delivered and maintained before, during, and after procedures in Interventional Radiology Theatres. They will facilitate the IR outreach service to ensure all inpatient and elective patients for interventional radiology are fully prepared for their procedures. You will be an effective role model, delivering regular clinical care. The provision of clinical and non-clinical governance is an essential part of the role.
We require an enthusiastic and conscientious team player with excellent communication skills who is well motivated and reliable. Previous experience/current experience within Interventional Radiology Theatres is desirable.
Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
1. Support the Band 7 Sister to lead a team of staff to provide a high-quality service, ensuring excellent standards of patient care are delivered and maintained in Interventional Radiology Theatres.
2. Regularly take charge of the department as IR Coordinator, organizing and planning theatre lists and ensuring the smooth running of the department.
3. Be an effective leader and role model, expected to provide regular direct clinical care and support the implementation of both clinical and non-clinical governance.
4. Work flexibly as a member of the department team to ensure standards are maintained, evaluated, and improved.
5. Utilize and integrate evidence into practice.
6. Work flexible hours, particularly covering late finishes, and provide an out-of-hours on-call nursing service as required by the department.
7. Understand local safety rules and protective clothing and equipment regarding working in an area using radiation.
8. Administer IV sedation to patients undergoing specific procedures following protocols.
9. Assist the Radiologist as ‘scrub nurse’ with invasive radiological procedures.
10. Actively participate in scheduling elective patients and ensuring they are fully prepped and prioritized appropriately.

Training & Qualifications
* Competent in medicines management
* Diploma or degree in health/nursing-related studies
* Evidence of continuing professional development/reflective profile
* Completion of all local competency packages or WINW packages relevant to the role
* Formal leadership and management training
Experience
* Experience of delivering nursing care to a group of patients
* Supervision of non-registered staff and students
* Ability to manage the clinical area effectively and efficiently
* Ability to convey sensitive information in an empathetic manner
* Previous experience at band 5
* Recent or current experience within the specialty
* Involvement in link nurse or project work
* Audit or research within the clinical area
* Providing staff with feedback on their individual performance
