Then the role of a Special Constable may be the opportunity you have been looking for… The Special Constabulary is a voluntary body, whose officers form a vital part of the police family, working alongside their regular colleagues to police the communities of Merseyside. Specials perform a variety of police duties to support regular officers with the day-to-day policing of Merseyside – they have the same powers as regular officers, wear the same uniform and carry the same equipment as regular officers. About the role of a Special Constable People become a Special Constable for a variety of reasons and from different backgrounds – some individuals have free time and have a desire to work with the community; or are happy in their present job but want to do something totally different in their spare time and only volunteer 16 hours per month. Others may have wanted to work in the police, and for different reasons have gone down a different career path. In all these circumstances the Special Constabulary gives you the opportunity to have a second and fulfilling career. Our Recruitment Process Our process consists of a number of stages and we are wishing to progress any new applicants for four set training start dates in the next financial year Training consists of 12-14 weekends over a 26 week period and you will be required to commit to all dates. Dates will be given you to you before your start date is confirmed.
