Main duties of the job
The Registered Manager will support the Children's Services Project Team (a partnership between Navigo CIC, Nurtrio) in the initial homes set up and service development of new local children's homes for Children Looked After with moderate needs.
The postholder will be responsible for ensuring the home is compliant against The Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 including national minimum standards and Social Care Common Inspection Framework (SCCIF): Children's homes and Looked after Children's frameworks.
To effectively lead and inspire the home's staff team, embedding a positive, transparent culture, child-focused ethos, achieving positive outcomes for young people and ensuring the delivery of exceptional care. Leading processes, safeguarding and managing the day-to-day life within the home, contributing to developing and building well-established principles and practice standards for the home, proactively contributing to the continuous improvement of these standards.
Job responsibilities
RESPONSIBLE FOR:
1. Leading on and being accountable for the delivery of a high-quality residential provision for children and young people, having robust oversight of the care provision to ensure safe and effective practice of the staff team.
2. Promoting a co-production approach, ensuring that the voices of children, young people and families are heard and valued in respect of service development, planning and decision making.
3. Leading and supporting the team to work in partnership with other agencies to deliver effective coordinated packages of support as per the child's care plan.
4. Ensuring that the children have an up-to-date support plan which details all their care and support needs and that all members of the staff team are aware and follow them.
5. Providing a safe and stimulating environment for children living at the home.
6. Ensuring that the service is identifying and supporting children and young people who are engaged in high-risk behaviours through robust management and ensuring that the support team have the right skills, knowledge and experience to work effectively within policies and processes that promote best practice.
7. Promoting positive and supportive relationships with families, ensuring that they maintain active involvement with their child.
8. Ensuring that all children and young people attend school/education and training in line with their care plans and engage with providers so that the staff team are aware of agreed targets and learning outcomes that can be supported and developed within the home.
9. Monitoring arrangements for any holidays, recreational outings and social activities with the children and young people and ensuring the implementation of related risk assessments.
10. Ensuring that there are regular stimulating activities for children and young people to participate in that reflect their interests and wishes and also offer new opportunities and experiences.
11. Embedding a culture of high aspirations for the children and young people to support positive outcomes.
12. Ensuring that the home environment is well maintained and is homely and personalised to the tastes and interests of the children and young people living there.
13. Developing all documents and plans in line with the Children's Homes Regulations with a view to continuous improvement and ensuring that Quality Standards are met.
14. Accountable for the Home's Statement of Purpose and ensuring that it is appropriate, relevant and regularly reviewed.
15. Ensuring that documentation required by regulators is completed to a high standard and is available for inspection.
16. Ensuring effective recruitment, induction and retention processes in line with Nurtrio policy and procedures.
17. The provision of high-quality and regular, reflective supervision to the staff team to ensure that team members are compliant with best practice.
18. Embedding a culture of continual improvement and development of the staff team as a whole through the appraisal process and regular staff meetings.
19. Ensuring adequate levels of staffing at all times of competent and trained residential workers and ensuring effective rota management.
20. Challenging poor performance and supporting staff members to improve practice but if not attainable using the appropriate Nurtrio policies and procedures to deal with issues.
21. Managing disciplinary, grievance and other HR related issues in accordance with Nurtrio's policies and procedures.
Person Specification
Knowledge
* Working knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation in respect of Residential Children's Homes including The Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 including national minimum standards, Social Care Common Inspection Framework (SCCIF), Children's Homes and Looked after Children's frameworks, the Children's Act 1989 and Care Standards Act 2000.
* Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and ability to input and maintain accurate data records.
* Knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace.

* Can listen and talk to children and young people, some of whom will have difficulties in communicating their wishes and feelings.

Experience
* At least 3 years experience of managing within a residential children's home.
* Experience of supporting inclusion with SEND/additional needs.
* Significant experience of working with children, young people and their families.
* Significant experience of partnership and multi-agency working and working across organisational boundaries.
Qualifications
* OFSTED Registered Residential Care Manager.
* Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social care and Young Peoples Services (or equivalent).
