We are looking for a driven individual to undertake the position of Technician 1 (across nights, days, and wheel lathe) at Reading Train Care Depot. The successful candidate will join a team responsible for the preventative and reactive maintenance of Class 387 & 16X rolling stock. We seek someone who is self-motivated with a desire to succeed.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Carrying out safety-critical and non-safety-critical tasks in accordance with controlled technical instructions on Diesel and Electric rolling stock.
2. Planning and coordinating tasks with others working on the same unit/vehicle(s) or location.
3. Performing maintenance activities, fault finding & rectification, and defect reporting.
4. Providing technical support at mainline stations as required.
5. Creating and maintaining safe work conditions.
6. Working away from the home location, depending on personal contract and/or roster requirements.
Candidate Requirements:
* Pro-active and able to work as part of a team or independently as required.
* Ability to plan workload to meet tight constraints.
* Willing to work weekends, bank holidays, and live within a reasonable distance of Reading Train Care Depot.
* From a recognised engineering background.
Minimum Qualifications:
* An NVQ Level 3 in an Engineering subject.
* Engineering experience; railway knowledge of Diesel and Electric rolling stock is advantageous, but local training will be provided.
Additional Information:
The roster includes a variety of shifts, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
Location Details:
Reading Train Care Depot is a large site with good transport links. Outstations are accessible by rail and road.
Residency Requirement:
The successful candidate must live within a one-hour commute of the depot.
