Axcis Education have an exciting new opportunity for the right candidate to become a long-term SEND PMLD (profound, multiple, learning difficulties) teaching assistant at a SEND school in the Teignbridge area (EX7) starting in January. The role is a full-time primary teaching assistant working in the lower level of the school with KS2. The class consists of year 7 students preparing for secondary education in the upper part of the school. Class sizes are a maximum of 10 pupils with 1 teacher and a teaching assistant.
The classes are split into ages with mixed needs in every class such as ASD, Complex Needs, delicate students, sensory impairments, speech and communication impairments, and learning difficulties. The school caters for pupils from 3 to 19 years and has wonderful grounds including a little forest school for the primary learners, a big forest school for the upper division, a hydro-pool, sports centre, extensive playground, sensory rooms, and Fun Floors. They also have a therapy dog onsite along with chickens in the garden area. The view of the seaside town from the premises is amazing!
As a PMLD teaching assistant, you will be supporting around 10 pupils in their education. Some will follow the national curriculum completing numeracy, literacy, reading programmes, and other subjects but may be at a lower level of learning. The majority will be completing sensory activities, virtual lessons, and learning about independence, cooperation, and fun. You will be following the Teacher's lesson plan as well as assisting the children with their emotional, learning, and social difficulties. You may use PEC cards, virtual whiteboards, and sensory objects or toys to engage the class.
Most importantly, you must be compassionate, caring, and up for a challenge! Personal care may be required, and an understanding of behaviour management is needed in this environment. This is a full-time role, working Monday to Friday from 8:45 AM to 3:45 PM. You must be able to travel to EX7 for an 8:45 AM start. The school has parking on site and is also accessible using local transport. The rate of pay is a daily rate of around £84.
