About the role
Do you want to be at the forefront of one of the world’s most ambitious sustainability initiatives?

As a result, alongside several consortium partners; Balfour Beatty have been selected by BP (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.
Balfour Beatty is looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Document Controller to support the Project Team, Supply Chain, and Stakeholders on the Net Zero Teesside project. This role is ideal for those looking to build their career in document management, ensuring the smooth handling of project records in a fast-paced construction environment.
We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds, including those who have developed their expertise through hands-on experience rather than formal education. If you have a strong foundation in document control, administration, or information management, we encourage you to apply.
What you'll be doing
As a Document Controller, you will work alongside a team of Document Controllers and report to a Senior Document Controller or Document Control Manager. You will be responsible for ensuring that project documentation is well-managed, easily accessible, and fully compliant with industry standards.

* Team Collaboration – Work closely with other Document Controllers to ensure a consistent and streamlined approach to document control.
* Quality & Compliance – Conduct QA checks, monitor document workflows, and ensure traceability across the project lifecycle.
* Information Control – Assist in the distribution, storage, and retrieval of technical and contractual documents.
* Reporting & Audits – Support the Senior Document Controller in generating reports, tracking documentation trends, and contributing to audits.
* Process Improvement – Follow established procedures and contribute to improving document control processes.
* Stakeholder Support – Work with the Project Team, Supply Chain, and external partners, ensuring correct document management practices are followed.
* Meetings & Communication – Attend team meetings, ensuring documentation is up to date and distributed as needed.
* Accreditation & Compliance Support – Assist in external audits and certifications, ensuring adherence to industry best practices.
Who we're looking for
* Previous experience in document control, administration, or information management, ideally in construction, engineering, or a technical environment.
* Familiarity with electronic document control systems and structured workflows.
* Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and databases.
* Excellent organisational abilities – able to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and priorities efficiently.
* Strong communication skills – confident working with internal teams and external stakeholders.
* A keen eye for detail – ensuring accuracy in documentation and compliance with project requirements.
* Understanding of ISO 9001 standards is beneficial but not essential.
