The job itself
If you’re a qualified accountant looking for a new challenge, join us at the East Riding of Yorkshire Council. With around £7 billion of assets benefitting over 130,000 members, we are responsible for ensuring the effectiveness of East Riding Pension Fund’s investment operations and accounting arrangements.
This role reports to the Head of Investments and will manage these arrangements, with the support of the Investment Assistant and Investment Clerk and working alongside a small team of investment professionals. As the expert in financial and investment accounting matters you will support senior management in the provision of information and advice to the Pensions Committee and the Pension Board.
You will be part of the team liaising with investment fund managers including the pension fund’s investment pooling company Border to Coast. You will also be the lead for the custodian and independent performance measurer relationships to name a few, to deliver the programme of work. In this important role, you’ll ensure the integrity of the pension fund’s financial arrangements, including supporting the development of investment related governance arrangements.
We’ll be looking to you to ensure the correct controls are in place for pension fund activities. That means, for example, working closely with Border to Coast on investment accounting, and with the Fund’s actuary on the triennial valuation. You’ll be the Council’s technical expert on many pension fund matters. Strong relationships are key, so you must be a confident leader and people manager.
You could be leading the development and delivery of projects one day and tackling hands-on operations the next. In short, it’s a varied role where you’ll realise commissioning plans with the help of your team and ensure we comply with the Fund’s objectives and legal requirements.
To join us, you must have an extensive post CCAB qualification experience. At home in a complex organisation, you will ideally know all about pension funds, investments, or treasury management.
The team’s office base is in Goole. The Council is committed to offering you a good work-life balance, which includes flexitime and flexible working arrangements including working from other office locations and from home.
