Organisation Salford SU Salary £29,948.73 - £33,871.48 Location Salford, Greater Manchester Contract type Permanent (Full time) Closing date 29 August 2024 Job Description The Student Participation Manager will oversee the work of the Student Opportunities Team, ensuring that the SU offers high quality and diverse opportunities to students, increasing the engagement and participation with student groups at the University of Salford, including: club sport, recreational sport, student societies, and student activities. The Student Participation Manager will also act as the operational lead on Salford SU’s Welcome strategy.
in this role, you will:
• Oversee the development of opportunities for students, beneficial both for individuals and groups, to enhance the student experience across the union.
• Facilitate the creation and growth of student communities on campus, encouraging students to feel a sense of belonging to both the Union and the University.
• Oversee the development of academic societies within the SU, with an aim of increasing engagement across these groups.
• Role model the Union’s values and behaviours and contribute to nurturing an inclusive working environment, actively challenging behaviour that does not align with our values.
• Manage staff within the team by providing coaching, performance support and development in line with the Union’s performance development frameworks.
• Ensure a pro-active and effective approach to the health, safety and wellbeing of staff, volunteers, and members.
• Lead on the operational delivery of the Union’s Welcome strategy, aiming to increase engagement of the activities and opportunities available to students.
• Ensure that there is a focused and effective training/development plan in place for Student Group Leaders.
• Oversee the Union’s portfolio of societies, encouraging the formation and development of active, fun, and engaging groups for students.
We're looking for someone who has:
• Experience managing staff and/or a volunteer workforce
• Experience in leading on large public facing projects and events
• Experience engaging diverse groups of members or customers with services and opportunities
• Knowledge of and/or an appreciation of the issues currently impacting students in Higher Education
• Ability to build and develop strong relationships and networks with a variety of stakeholders at all levels
• Ability to apply innovative solutions to complex problems
• Ability to manage a varied portfolio of work and deliver a wide range of objectives within a defined time frame
• Ability to develop a programme of events within a defined budget to appeal to a student audience
• Capable of managing teams and individuals effectively; motivating and supporting them to achieve high performance
• A demonstrable understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion and the challenges that may be faced by students from minoritised backgrounds
