Who You'll Work With
The Physician Assistant will report to the on-site Human Resources team and receive direction from the Chief Physician.
What You'll Be Doing
The Physician Assistant will provide on-site support for our client’s assembly plant on a casual basis. Ongoing support for patients and Human Resources at other facilities will be provided remotely from the main site.
General Duties
* Provide advice and counsel to local management on matters of occupational health.
* Conduct evaluations of prospective and current employees to determine work capacity.
* Monitor the health of workers in potentially hazardous working environments.
* Advise local Human Resources in all medical matters relating to employee performance and workplace health hazards, including working environment, safety hazards, materials and processes used, accident frequency, ergonomics, grievances, etc.
* Contact employees’ treating physicians to discuss treatment patterns, disability duration, and any other concerns on cases that require specific attention.
* Participate in Health & Safety and related committees as required.
* Maintain custody of all employees’ medical records and release information only in accordance with company policies and applicable law.
Examinations
* Collect and evaluate data from history and screening tests.
* Conduct physical examinations and evaluations and document the findings in the company medical system.
* Determine medical placement (restrictions) coding based on examination findings and screening test results.
* Ensure that restrictions are entered into the company medical system.
* Maintain current knowledge of health surveillance procedures and requirements.
Evaluation and Treatment of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses
* Provide medical assessment of the employee's condition and determine appropriate treatment and follow-up.
* Evaluate the work-relatedness of an employee's illness or injury based on information obtained from health and occupational histories, history of the incident, job site analysis, and the clinical observations made upon examination of the employee.
* Determine the employee's ability to return to work and the need for medical restrictions (when required); assign the appropriate physical qualification code(s).
* Make clinically appropriate recommendations for outside referrals for medical treatment and follow-up or revisit to the Medical Department as indicated.
* Review and complete documentation for each patient seen in the employee’s electronic medical record.
* Review records of problem cases seen by the nurse.
* Assist with investigations of injuries or illnesses as required.
Non-Occupational Cases
* Evaluate employees returning from non-occupational leaves of absence for the ability to work either with or without restrictions.
* Determine the follow-up plan and duration of restrictions if employees with non-occupational conditions cannot be returned to work.
* Perform examinations for Permanent and Total Disability to determine whether the employee qualifies for a disability pension.
* Refer employees to the Employee Assistance Program as appropriate for cases involving drug/alcohol/substance abuse and/or other mental health problems.
What You Need to Be Successful
* Must be a registered Physician Assistant and in good standing with the CPSO
* Must have 2-3 years of experience as a Physician Assistant
* Active CPR & First Aid certification up to date
* Previous experience in a supervision role, overseeing a team of nurses
* Working knowledge of WSIA and Return to Work planning
What You Need to Stand Out
* Previous experience with Occupational Health is considered an asset
* Previous experience with case management is an asset
