You will form part of the geotechnical department design team reporting to a Principal Geotechnical Engineer. You will be part of a project team responsible for delivering projects to cost, exacting standards and to project timescales during the conceptual, detailed design and construction phases. The role will require a good understanding of engineering principles and practical application of British Standard and Eurocode Design. You will see projects through from ground model development at desk study stage, site investigation, ground model refinement and foundation design.
Key Responsibilities and accountabilities:
1. Analyse client’s briefs and agree deliverable requirements. Liaise where necessary with clients to ensure satisfactory progress and quality.
2. Providing civil engineering support for the delivery of a portfolio of projects, ensuring adherence to quality, time and budget, as well as relevant standards and client specifications.
3. Preparation of schedule of activities, specifications, scheme budgets, scheme fees, target costs, and project programmes.
4. Production of foundation designs and review of drawings.
5. Management of small budget site investigations i.e. up to £50,000.
6. Support delivery of medium to large budget site investigations.
7. Consult with relevant manager for payment applications to be submitted to clients.
8. Undertake feasibility, desk study and site reconnaissance.
9. Arrange and supervise sub-contractors and ensure their works are completed in a safe manner and to time and budget.
10. Logging and sampling of soils to British standards.
11. Preparation and review of BS5930 factual, interpretive and design reports.
12. Peer checking of colleague reports.
13. Accept ownership of work to be done (i.e. being required to undertake specific actions within an agreed job boundary, the execution of a delegated task, activity or process).
14. Keeping all records, supporting documentation necessary to substantiate personal performance.
15. Submit monthly progress reports to your Manager.
16. Keep abreast of all legislation particularly health and safety and CDM.
17. Assess engineering documentation, feasibility and compliance with client requirements and support the preparation of accurate budgets for new projects.
18. You may also have to review method statements and risk assessments, liaise with construction and site management and mentor less experienced engineers.
19. Carry out reasonable duties as directed by Line Manager or Nominated Director.
20. Principally office based. Hybrid office/home working considered with a minimum of three days office-based dependant on experience following probationary period.
21. Supervision of site investigations as required, working away from home.
22. From time to time you may be required to attend site visits where you will be required to adhere to LSTC and Client health and safety policy, and procedures.
23. Visit/work from other LSTC offices as necessary for execution of your work and agreed periods with Line Manager.
Qualifications and Experience:
Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in civil engineering, geology, geotechnical engineering or similar.
2. Minimum 3 years experience in geotechnical or civil engineering.
3. Ideally Member of Professional Institution.
4. Hold a valid UK Driving Licence (or licence acceptable to our insurers).
Experience
1. Good knowledge and evidence of keeping up to date on relevant industry specific legislation.
2. Ability to understand and plan for conflicting requirements and meet challenging deadlines.
3. Ability to interrelate own discipline areas with outputs from other engineering and none engineering disciplines to present overall suitable solutions mitigating risk in proposed solutions.
4. Able to produce reports and design deliverables that are compliant with standards, specifications and accurately considering all available relevant information and knowledge.
5. Ideally working towards chartership with ICE or GSL.
