JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking an Operations Manager to head up a small London-based team. The person will be hard-working, intelligent and be directly involved in day-to-day activities adopting very much a 'hands-on' approach, rather than purely managerial oversight.
The role is to oversee premium and claims processing, both open market and bordereaux and to work closely with other stakeholders within the Group with responsibility for credit control and financials. This role will support the insurance being written across Europe with a present focus on UK, US, Irish, French and Swiss products, with future expansion into other territories.
The role requires knowledge of London Market processing via bureau but also direct Company market and requires the person to identify efficiencies, automate existing manual processes and build a robust framework that is scalable to support future business growth.
This role would suit an experienced operations specialist who is used to running a small team and looking for career progression.
Key responsibilities
* Review and map existing business processes and workflows to identify efficiencies within Operations and across the wider business, considering upstream and downstream activities;
* Responsible for operational change management, defining new business processes and ensuring business readiness leading to the successful implementation of new products, processes and IT solutions;
* Establish opportunities for automation within existing and new business processes;
* Develop and provide monthly and quarterly metrics packs on KPI's for the area;
* Ensure that all premiums, claims, bordereaux and loss funds are processed accurately and in a timely manner, managing the team and assessing resource requirements to meet service standards;
* Ensure sanctions screening is completed and hits escalated to Compliance;
* Liaise with other Berkshire Hathaway entities on processing, credit control and financial issues;
* Ensure that due consideration is given to operational aspects when onboarding new business;
* Monitor and report on completeness and accuracy of data quality including that received by and processed by the team;
* Investigate, remedy and provide feedback on errors and exceptions;
* Ensure that robust checks on AML are conducted on business processed within the team;
* Participate fully as a member of the MedPro Operations Forum and attend legal entity Committees as may be required;
* Provide management information reports to the business and third parties as may be required.
* Responsible for MedPro Business Continuity Plan and regular testing;
* Work with internal and external facilities management to ensure that there is a safe, clean working environment;
* Create, implement and manage the health & safety protocols for MedPro Division.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Knowledge, skills and experience
* Minimum of 10 years’ experience in an operational role in the insurance market with recent management experience;
* Excellent planning and organisation skills with the ability to prioritise workload effectively;
* Excellent analytical, numerical & data skills, comfortable with data sets and manipulation;
* Excellent attention to detail and collaborative nature;
* Experience of mapping processes and process improvement;
* Ability to deal competently with pressure and prioritise workloads;
* Curiosity to identify when things don’t look correct and to explore the causes;
* Strong competence in MS Office applications, particularly excel;
* Knowledge of general insurance principles and practices;
* Able to use initiative, think independently and be proactive;
* Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills at all levels of the organisation;
* Good at managing people and building a strong team ethos;
* Friendly, approachable, professional and collaborative.
