Peer Support Specialist - The Consortium - Northampton Recovery Center - NORTHAMPTON

The Northampton Recovery Center (NRC), a program of The Consortium is committed to undoing systems of oppression and the harms that they have caused. The NRC Peer Support Specialist will work in the Peer Recovery Support Center and create conditions for a safe space for participants, modeling and upholding our Code of Ethics, Mission Statement and our trauma-informed values.
Responsibilities Include:
Support to Peers in the Center
* Create and support a safe and welcoming space that reflects a sense of belonging and the Consortium’s organizational values
* Model Northampton Recovery Center’s Code of Ethics, Mission, and Vision
* Support peer involvement, meeting each member where they are at, using motivational interviewing, appreciative inquiry and active listening to discover their interests
* Sit and talk with peers, engage them, find out their interests
* Support peers with locating resources, recovery pathways, and recovery communities
* Make calls to peers who haven’t been attending, follow up as appropriate
* Maintain an attractive, clean and safe environment
* Prepare the space as needed for opening, prepare the space for closing daily
* Scan NRC spaces daily and address concerns as needed
* Provide support to participants and members in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment
Skills and Qualifications:
* Comprehensive understanding of addiction and lived experience in recovery
* Knowledge of organizational development and Community building
* Ability to be a self-starter/take initiative
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Valid driver’s license required
* Some travel within Massachusetts required
Experience:
* Must have lived experience with substance addiction recovery
* People with diverse lived experience and cultural backgrounds are encouraged to apply
* Experience with volunteer coordination
* Experience in program planning and coordination
