Job summary A vacancy has arisen for a Clinical Scientist to join the Tissue Typing Laboratory at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge. We offer a comprehensive range of molecular and serological techniques to identify Human Leukocyte Antigens (HLA) and immunological sensitisation to HLA. These tests are performed in support of the regional solid organ and stem cell transplant programmes in the differential diagnosis of HLA associated diseases and in pharmacogenomics (adverse drug reactions). The laboratory is responsible for the selection of HLA compatible donors and recipient pairs for renal and stem cell transplantation and for HLA typing, HLA specific antibody screening and crossmatching in support of the small intestinal, multi-visceral, hepatic and cardio-thoracic transplant programmes. Main duties of the job Processes specialist investigations in department. Provides specialist advice to clinicians as to application and appropriateness of tests and timescales, and result interpretation. Provides specialist service e.g. training, problem solving for specialist requirement. Work independently and lead on a specialist area as directed by the Section Head. Rotate between specialist laboratory sections and maintain breadth of knowledge and skills to support service resilience. Act as a mentor for more junior scientific and support staff. To work flexibly in reflection of service needs. Participation in delivery of a 24-hour out-of-hours emergency on-call rota Supervises and/or trains less experienced staff in own area of work. The work of the service brings staff into constant contact with human body fluids, tissues and hazardous chemicals. This will include blood and tissues from deceased adult and paediatric organ donors. Show mental resilience in emotionally challenging situations.
