Working as part of a team in a multi-disciplinary environment, the Steward is expected to make a significant contribution to the efficient and effective operation of the Hospice. This involves undertaking a range of duties associated with the operational requirements of the Hospice premises and infrastructure, portering, driving, basic maintenance, health and safety, security etc. The Steward is to be generally flexible by undertaking new duties or accepting revised duties which may arise as a result of changes in Hospice operations or new developments.
The post holder will be expected to:
1. Help to create a good working atmosphere and recognise the importance of patients' needs.
2. Maintain good inter-personal relationships with all groups of staff within the Hospice, and with outside agencies with links to the Hospice.
3. Be a good team worker.
4. Be a person who takes pride, care and attention to detail in fulfilling their responsibilities.
Main duties of the job
1. The timely execution, recording and resolution of the activities as defined in the Hospice Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and to provide input into the design of new requirements as the hospice develops.
2. Maintaining the Hospice's infrastructure systems in line with the MSH Asset Management Plan.
3. Identifying and reporting failures associated with the buildings, ground and gardens structures to determine the need for repairs ensuring the identified issue is made safe in line with H&S requirements.
4. Ensuring that health and safety procedures and practices are adopted and adhered to when conducting any work or tasks within the Hospice to ensure the safety of its occupants is maintained.
5. As and when required to accompany/assist third party engineers and to work within safe practices which are to be adhered to.
6. Work as part of the security arrangements for the hospice which includes the opening and locking up procedures.
7. To provide support to other departments within the hospice with regards to transportation/collection of goods and the setup of equipment for fundraising events as and when required.
8. To respond to emergency situations as part of the Hospice Fire Warden team to ensure the safety of the occupants is maintained and evacuation is safely completed.
9. To respond to out of hours call outs on occasions such as emergencies.
