Your Role as a 1:1 Autism Teaching Assistant As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you’ll work closely with a student who requires additional support in their daily school life. Your role will involve providing individualised assistance to help the student engage with learning activities, navigate their emotions, and follow a structured routine. Key responsibilities: Emotional Regulation: Support the student in identifying and managing their emotions, using techniques to promote calm and positive behavior. Daily Timetables and Routines: Help the student follow daily plans, adhering to structured timetables to build consistency and confidence. Communication Support: Facilitate effective communication through PECs (Picture Exchange Communication System) and other alternative communication methods as needed. Engagement in Learning: Encourage participation in classroom activities by breaking down tasks into manageable steps and adapting materials where necessary. Positive Relationships: Build a trusting, supportive bond with the student to foster a safe and encouraging learning environment. Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, therapists, and parents to monitor progress, share insights, and adapt strategies for the student’s success.
