As a Controls Engineer, you will have responsibility for producing robust customer-ready control systems. You will be refining and adding features to our existing SCADA control systems and create new logic for future machines. Simple motion, safety, routine logic, HMI, and IoT comms is implemented on most of our machines.
Reporting to the Electrical & Electronics Systems Leader, you will work across a team spanning multiple disciplines e.g., Research, Hardware and Software Engineering, Supply Chain, and Customer Support. Occasional international travel will be required.
Key Responsibilities
1. Creating PLC code
2. Creating documentation
3. Developing interface control schematics
4. Selecting sensors, mechanical actuators, and controls
5. Creating test specifications
6. Support remote commissioning of customer sites
Required Skills
1. Solid understanding of IEC6113-3 standard PLC development languages with expertise in Ladder Logic
2. Relevant experience in a technical discipline
3. Working familiarity with the needs of the Machinery, EMC, and Low Voltage directives
4. Ability to create new schematics and manufacturing files in a package such as Eplan.
Desirable Skills
1. Working knowledge of Omron Sysmac environment
2. Experience using electrical CAD tools
3. OPC-UA machine communication protocol
4. Ethercat field bus control systems
5. An interest in distributed sensors, using IoT protocols such as MQTT
6. An interest in Operational Technology (OT) and how it interacts with Industrial Controls
7. Familiarity with the requirements of other regulatory bodies, UL for example
8. Working knowledge of safety-related control systems
9. Working within an ISO9001 accredited organisation
10. Any experience with Automated Guided Vehicles
