Senior Practitioner
The senior practitioner is responsible to the deputy manager and manager.
Job Description
It is the responsibility of the senior Practitioner to assist in the efficient and effective delivery of a quality childcare service for children between the ages of 0 – 5 years and support and guide the practitioners and support workers to carry out their duties. This will involve the Lead Practitioner working in accordance with the settings policies and procedures and being pro-active in developing their knowledge and skills in regards to the national guidance and curriculum appropriate to the 0 – 5 age group.
Knowledge
* Has previous experience of working with children.
* Has an SVQ 3 or equivalent and it would be desirable if the senior is interested in working towards or already has a PDA or SVQ 4 qualification in childcare.
* Has a sound knowledge and understanding of how to interact with service users such as children, parents, practitioners, and support workers.
Responsibilities
* To welcome all parents/carers and their children into the setting, gathering information about each child to ensure they are able to provide the best quality of care individual to each child’s needs and give an informative handover when the children are collected.
* To communicate confidently and clearly with parents about their child and information that will be essential to supporting their engagement within their child’s learning and development.
* To ensure the effective delivery of the curriculum and have knowledge to share the curriculum with colleagues and families.
* To support the children with their care routines such as nappy changing, tooth brushing, and sleep routines (if applicable).
* To co-operate, guide, and communicate with other team members and participate effectively in the work of the team.
* To instruct and assist the Practitioners and Apprentices to help the children with transition times within the routine.
* To instruct and assist the Practitioners and Apprentices in the setting up and maintenance of areas indoors and out.
* To instruct and assist in the setting up of snack and all that it involves.
* To instruct and assist in the maintenance of a clean and healthy environment for children and staff.
* To take responsibility for instructing and assisting other members of the team to provide daily and weekly activities according to the planning and topics.
* To give praise, encouragement, reassurance, and assistance to help develop the support staff and children’s self-esteem and confidence.
* To ensure all paperwork is completed for example child protection forms, accident/incident forms, and medication forms.
* To ensure all paperwork is up to date i.e. planning, learning stories, action plans, care plans, and staged assessment meeting documents.

It is also a requirement that staff members attend additional training courses which will mainly be out with working hours to ensure they are up to date with good practice and new initiatives.

Contract length: 9 months
Pay: £13.20-£15.20 per hour
Expected hours: 28.5 – 38 per week
