JOB DESCRIPTION:
Having achieved solid growth in the last five years, the company has a sound business plan to deliver consistent future expansion. In support of this plan, we are looking to hire an exceptional External Sales Executive to focus on new customer development and delivering net new business.
The External Sales Executive will play a pivotal role in driving new business sales and delivering growth in the designated geographic area.
Reporting to the Sales Director, the successful candidate will target potential new customers, selling the value of the company’s services and building lasting relationships with key stakeholders. A background in merchant sales—preferably within plumbing supplies—is essential.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate innovative sales strategies, ensuring business growth while maintaining strong profit margins. This role is key in supporting the company’s ongoing success and future expansion.
KEY RESULTS/ACCOUNTABILITIES EXPECTED FROM THE ROLE:
1. Own sales budget and deliver year-on-year growth.
2. Identify and develop new business opportunities within the contractor market.
3. Build and manage client relationships, engaging with multiple stakeholders.
4. Utilize sales tools such as Barbour ABI to identify and develop new projects/opportunities.
5. Promote and sell a comprehensive range of plumbing and heating products, offering expert advice and solutions.
6. Negotiate pricing, contracts, and terms to secure profitable deals.
7. Understand and anticipate clients’ existing and future needs, communicating these to internal teams.
8. Maintain cross-functional relationships within the company, ensuring seamless service delivery.
9. Attend and present area summary updates at monthly sales meetings at our head office in Southampton.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND CHARACTERISTICS:
1. 10+ years’ experience in sales within a plumber’s merchant or wholesaler.
2. Proven track record of exceeding sales targets and growing revenue.
3. Strong knowledge of plumbing and heating products and their applications.
4. Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
5. Self-motivated, results-driven, and comfortable working independently.
6. Ability to close deals and value-engineer opportunities where needed.
7. Confident and fearless in handling challenging sales discussions.
8. Must have a valid UK driving licence and be willing to travel within the designated region.
