We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated pharmacist to our lead pharmacist within the Emergency Department at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. The post-holder will lead the service provided to the emergency department working alongside the other lead pharmacists working in the acute care team. Our acute and admissions team consists of:
* Specialist Emergency Department Pharmacist (Band 8a)
* Specialist Acute Medicine Pharmacist (flow) (8a)
* Lead Medical Admissions Pharmacist (8a)
* Acute Medicine and Practice Educator Pharmacist (8a)
* Care of the Elderly Specialist Pharmacist (8a)
* Band 7, Band 6 and Band 5 staff working in the team
Main duties of the job
Your day to day duties will include (but not be limited to):
* To be responsible for providing pharmaceutical care and medicines optimisation to individual patients in the Emergency Department (ED).
* To ensure delivery of the clinical governance agenda in relation to medication use in the Emergency Department.
* To independently prescribe for all patients where clinically appropriate within professional competency predominantly at admission but also to facilitate discharges directly from the ED maintaining prescribing competencies and prescribe within the Trust's Non-Medical Prescribing Policy.
* This post holder will be expected to cover 7 1/2 hours a day Monday to Friday. The exact daily hours worked will be determined according to service need but is likely to be between 8am and 6pm.
* As a member of the Pharmacy team you will also work in our BRI dispensary (as overtime), on a rota basis, during Mon-Fri 5-6pm.
* Our Saturday, Sunday & Bank Holiday shifts are part of normal contracted hours with commensurate 'off-duty days', on a rota basis of roughly one weekend day every 6 weeks.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
Essential
* Master's degree (or equivalent) in pharmacy.
* Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
* Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
* Postgraduate Diploma or MSc in Clinical Pharmacy.
Desirable
* Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
* Qualification in Independent Prescribing - Note: To be undertaken on appointment if not already a registered non-medical prescriber.
* Qualification in advanced clinical practice.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
* A thorough knowledge of UK hospital pharmacy practice, safe management at transfers of care and medication commissioning.
* Medicines reconciliation in an acute care setting.
* Experience of one to one and small group teaching.
* Previous experience of audit & quality improvement.
* Experience and ability to initiate, lead, manage and supervise a range of projects.
* Experience of managing and motivating staff, appraising and giving feedback.
* Knowledge of basic medicines information and critical appraisal techniques to apply medical / pharmacotherapeutic evidence to patient care.
* Knowledge of the legal framework for the dispensing, prescribing and administration of medicines.
* Knowledge of budgetary management and financial control.
* Understanding of medicine and nursing practice, record keeping and terminology.
