As a Construction Manager, you'll hold a crucial leadership role reporting to a Project Director in Strategic Infrastructure (SI). You'll be responsible for ensuring consistent implementation of legal and business SHESQ requirements on major strategic UK electricity transmission projects.
Big projects, big budgets, big ideas: this is an opportunity to lead and develop a team of Project Supervisors to support the safe delivery of Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) portfolio of projects. That’s a job anyone can be proud of.
This role welcomes applicants UK wide, and we offer hybrid working from office and home. You'll be flexible to regular travel to London, Kent, Essex and Yorkshire, depending on the project.
Key accountabilities
1. Line management of Project Supervisors enacting the role of Employers ‘Supervisor’ under NEC contracts across an area of projects and multiple construction sites to ensure works are constructed in accordance with Contractual and Planning Requirements e.g. Development Consent Order.
2. Acting as a matrix manager to internal and external support functions to meet SHESQ performance and compliance requirements and delivered in compliance with National Grid policies and procedures, whilst supporting the implementation of strategic SHESQ initiatives in SI.
3. Enable programmatic management of Project Supervisor resources across projects to optimise performance across SI Onshore / Offshore.
4. Lead the effective implementation, coordination, execution and monitoring of all aspects of Planning Requirements, Health, Safety, Environmental, Sustainability and Quality Assurance on assigned Projects.
5. Implement a Centre of Excellence to review continuous improvement and capture lessons learned, ensuring best practice is both promoted and utilised across the projects within the region and sharing across SI and the wider business.
About you
What we do isn’t just important - it’s essential. That’s why we look to recruit experts in their field. In this case, we’re looking for someone who has:
1. Project Management skills including management of risk for delivery of projects to scope, time, cost, quality and safety.
2. Extensive understanding of Safety and Environmental legislation and practices and policies relating to Construction and working knowledge of CDM Regulations with relation to Client & PC duties.
3. Experience of multi-disciplined construction projects working to deadlines in a commercial environment and awareness of contract management within fixed price and target cost contracts.
4. Detailed knowledge of quality management and site inspection requirements and the application of Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) for compliant project delivery.
5. Experience working in a matrix organisation with multiple stakeholders to facilitate cross functional teams to operate collaboratively and innovatively.
6. The ability to lead and coach a team to allow them to meet their full potential.
7. NEBOSH GC preferred, IOSH as a minimum.
8. A current full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel to project sites.
What you'll get
A competitive salary between £66,000 - £80,000 - dependent on capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a job requirement car, a bonus of up to 15% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
