Job Description
A critical position in Smith Detections’ Global Training and Technical Documentation department. The role holder will collaborate with a breadth of global stakeholders, internally and externally, and will have regular contact with other departments across Smiths Detection globally. The role holder will need to manage and deliver both internal and external Training Needs Analysis (TNA) and have strong analytic and customer relationship skills.
This role holder supports the Training Analysis, Design and Technical Documentation pillar of the Global Training and Documentation department. The key objective of this role is to conduct TNA in a manner that is both flexible and robust. The role holder will demonstrate and evidence good levels of consultancy and domain/capability experience and will be able to operate across a complex environment both culturally and technically. The role holder is implementing and delivering standard training methodologies (such as the Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT) or ADDIE models) and project management frameworks, plus providing the customer with additional value with training analysis to inform their decision making.
Duties and Responsibilities (Includes but not limited to)
5. • Conducts complex TNAs both internally and externally and for a range of sectors, including all related stakeholder management, communication and data gathering
• Can identify the learning needs of internal employee groups and create and deploy learning pathways to fulfil theses needs through the conduct of role analysis
• Manages induction training pathways for internal target audiences, continually refreshing training content within pathways and approaches as learning content evolves.
• Delivers training on the conduct of TNA to wider Training and Technical Documentation team members
• Writes TNA reports for a range of internal and external customers and presents findings with confidence and corresponding expertise
• Can observe and identify wider organisational problems that may be leading to training issues and communicate these in a manner that is both accessible and concise
• Can conduct stakeholder interviews at all levels and is able to ask effective questions to gather qualitative information on both the training need and other organisational aspects that may impact on success
• Can develop questionnaires to collect reliable and valid quantitative data
• Can appreciate the impact that cultural differences may have within a global organisation when recommending training options to fill emerging training gaps
• Creates and deploys communication plans to share the outputs of internal TNAs across the global organisation, factoring in cultural nuances where appropriate
• Can work closely and in collaboration with these departments to tailor training outputs to customer requirements
• Works with the Smiths Detection Training Delivery and Online Training teams to co-ordinate and manage outputs from the TNA that require training design activity
• Acts as Liaison between the Global Training and Technical Documentation Department and other departments on all topics related to TNA
• Independently familiarises themselves with changing technologies and the future of TNA and training delivery, both online and in-classroom
• Ensures that Smiths Detection remains an innovative and impactful training department by keeping up to date with changes to training options for all Smiths Detection equipment
• Leads on TNA project meetings both within the department and across other internal and external stakeholders
• Establishes and maintains exceptional relationships with Service, Sales, Bid Teams, Marketing, Product Managers, Product Specialists, regional Service Managers and regional Service Leads to support the needs of the business and promote the TNA offering
• Provides expert consultancy to others in the conduct of TNA and the people problems that can manifest as technical issues
• Provides training management consultancy services to clients, within the scope of our market areas and domains, with support from additional training colleagues, project managers and Senior Management teams
• Represents Smiths Detection and where appropriate, our customers, in a professional manner, upholding all the Smiths values and leadership behaviours
• Fulfils any administrative requirements, ensuring that all necessary internal control systems are maintained
• Demonstrates flexibility to travel to customer’s sites to perform duties and maintains relationships with the customer, both locally and internationally
• Reviews and provides Quality Assurance on TNA outputs of other Training Analysts
• Participates in the processing of tenders including the writing of bids and scoping of customer requirements from tender documentation
The Individual
Education:
6. A formal qualification in the conduct of TNA is desirable, but not essential
7. A Higher-level qualification in Training Management, Training Analysis or related HR function
8. Willing to work towards additional professional development targets
Knowledge/Skills:
9. You have exceptional standards of written English
10. You demonstrate significant knowledge of at least one Training Analysis framework – such as ADDIE, SAM or other
11. You demonstrate knowledge of JSP 822 including some experience of delivering the component parts of DSAT
12. You have specific experience in the production and/or assurance of comprehensive TNA reports
13. You demonstrate evidence of working in a project environment in the target markets including the intellectual flexibility to work in new sectors from within Smiths Detection Global markets
14. You have experience of working with internal learning teams to identify internal learning pathways through the conduct of role analysis
15. You are proficient in MS Office applications to include Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
16. You can handle stressful situations and adapt to changing priorities
17. You are able to take TNA frameworks and adapt them in an innovative manner to meet the needs of your customers

28. Can plan and manage resource requirements for TNA and Training Design activity
