Job Description
We’re recruiting for an Actuarial Model Developer to join our Modelling Solutions Department here at L&G. We’re offering a competitive base salary, great benefits and the opportunity to work as part of a project based team.
You will typically be involved in several different projects across end-to-end valuation solutions at any one time. And these projects will range from: enhancements to existing reporting methodologies through to the incorporation of new products and legislative requirements, which could span multiple platforms/software and will involve proactive interactions with various different teams across L&G.
If you are committed to delivering results/solutions to high standards and have a "change" mindset, we'd love to hear from you.
What you'll be doing:
* Implementing developmental changes as identified in the requirements documents in line with the agreed work package plan (covering both technical and documentation changes).
* Completing all testing activities as defined in the project plan, ensuring that all test preparation documentation is complete before undertaking testing, and that the test completion reports are completed to document tests undertaken and their success (or otherwise).
* Preparing all project and test documentation (unit / system / integration) and ensuring it is complete, accurate and adheres to current best practice standards as well as L&G's development standards and methodology.
* Actively managing your own time and workload and knowing when to escalate issues/risks of deviation from the agreed plan to the Project Manager and the Actuarial Technical Lead at the earliest opportunity, so that you can agree options for resolution.
* Providing input to the project status reports as and when requested by the Project Manager, ensuring that they are complete and accurately reflect the development status of the project / work package.
* Ensuring compliance with Internal and group governance policies.
* Supporting End-to-End modelling and methodology initiatives for platforms supported by the Actuarial and Finance Solutions team.
* Acting as a subject matter expert across various actuarial disciplines and providing technical guidance, advice and support in modelling projects across the end-to-end solution.
Qualifications
Who we're looking for:
* A Part-Newly Qualified Actuary with demonstrable actuarial experience
* A passion for project work and delivering change excellence
* Great communication skills (both written and verbal)
* Strong personal planning and organisation skills, with the ability to work in silo, but also as part of an effective team
* High attention to detail, with the ability to show initiative in applying good problem solving/analytical skills
* A practical and hands on approach, including the ability to write own actuarial code from scratch.
* Knowledge/experience of Prophet development within a large life insurer - including code changes, actuarial testing, and producing documentation of development and testing that are compliant to Technical Actuarial Standards (would be highly advantageous)
* Knowledge/experience of wider modelling languages/platforms such as AXIS, Tableau, R, iDR, SQL, DCS etc. (would also be highly advantageous)
Whatever your role, we reward performance and behaviour with a package that looks after all the things that are important to you. Here are some of the benefits we offer:
* The opportunity to participate in our annual, performance-related bonus plan and valuable share schemes
* Generous pension contribution
* Life assurance
* Private medical insurance
* At least 25 days holiday, plus public holidays, 26 days after 2 years’ service. There’s also the option to buy and sell holiday
* Competitive family leave
* Participate in our electric car scheme, which offers employees the option to hire a brand-new electric car through tax efficient salary sacrifice
* There are the many discounts we offer – both for our own products and at a range of high street stores and online
* In 2023, some of our workspaces were redesigned. Our offices are great spaces to connect and collaborate and have your wellbeing at the heart
