Genus ABS is looking for a dedicated Livestock Person to join our growing team at our industry leading calf rearing facility in North Wales. The successful candidate will focus on the care and management of high-value animals, supporting the development of the future generations of NuEra Genetics and De Novo Genetics. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in the future performance of bulls, impacting herds around the world. You will be involved in the day-to-day husbandry of calves, youngstock, and recipient heifers. The facility houses over 200 calves and 100 heifers for calving, utilising staff expertise, calf environment and technology to provide the best conditions for animal welfare and growth. This role offers you the opportunity to work with high-value livestock and cutting-edge technologies in a state-of-the-art facility. You will contribute to the development of Genus ABS’s global herd genetics, working alongside a team that strives for excellence in calf and heifer care and welfare. Animal Husbandry & Care: Follow established protocols to ensure the consistent care and welfare of calves, youngstock, and heifers, including feeding, weighing, and monitoring health. Calving & Post-Calving Care: Assist with calving recipient heifers, providing post-calving care to both heifers and calves. Machinery & Equipment Maintenance: Perform daily tractor and machinery work (bedding, feeding, mucking out) and ensure the servicing and upkeep of machinery on site. Hygiene & Cleanliness: Maintain the cleanliness of calf housing and equipment, as well as the calving environment, ensuring high standards of biosecurity and animal welfare. Data Collection & Technology Use: Collect data on various performance indicators such as colostrum absorption, daily liveweight gains, feed intakes, and treatments. Utilise technologies to measure and monitor performance and progress. Health Monitoring & Vaccinations: Monitor calf health and provide routine health testing, vaccinations, and treatments as necessary. Experience: Previous experience in an animal handling role, especially with calves or youngstock, is advantageous but not essential. A passion for animal health and welfare is key. Skills: Strong communication skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and meticulous attention to detail are essential for this role.
