Inside IR35
A significant programme of infrastructure investment and development is required on the Devonport site to meet the needs of the future MOD ship and submarine programmes. The 10 Dock design team is undertaking design on upgrading the existing dock to meet modern standards and support the Astute Deep Maintenance Programme (ADMP).
Who we are looking for?
We are looking for a Principal Engineer - Mechanical Services (Staff) to support the delivery of mechanical building services as part of the 10 Dock Facility in Devonport. The buildings comprise offices, workshops, stores, and welfare facilities. The mechanical services include conventional services to support the offices and workshops, along with nuclear-related ventilation and effluent systems in controlled access workshops.
What will you be doing?
1. Lead and manage building mechanical services design packages for 10 Dock Facility Buildings A&B ensuring requirements are met through the design process; including agreeing project-related objectives along with the PM team;
2. Support the Safety Manager in the overall design performance including technical reviews of design submissions by the designer and contractor, providing technical design guidance and review of the building mechanical services design for elements of the services which support the Facility Safety Case;
3. Support the Design Manager Buildings A&B on implementing the project approach to Health, Safety, and Environmental issues as applicable to the design;
4. Integrate with other design disciplines and facility stakeholders to ensure that a coordinated Facility design is delivered.
The experience you'll bring:
A demonstration of relevant knowledge and skills in:
1. Technical management of large-scale complex design development throughout the design lifecycle; including technical support in all areas of design process, safety, and construction buildability;
2. Understanding of engineering design and safety practices, post and project requirements;
3. Experience of project specification, planning, management, and budgeting;
4. Experience of the design support to construction, operations, refit/repair of conventional and nuclear submarines and/or facilities;
5. A working knowledge of relevant engineering computer applications, including BIM.
This post requires a Degree in a relevant discipline and Chartered Membership of an appropriate Institution.
The post sits on the nuclear baseline so an understanding of the site licence/authorisation conditions would be highly beneficial.
You will need to satisfy security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
