Kier Construction has an exciting opportunity in our design team. We are looking for a Design Manager to join our Scotland Construction business.
Location: Stepps (Office)
Hours: 40 hours per week - Can consider some flexibility on hours and hybrid working is available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.
What will you be responsible for?
The Design Manager will be aligned with a new build education project in Ayrshire, working closely with the delivery team as well as having some involvement in tenders and pre-construction across a wide range of projects.
As a Design Manager, you will work closely with project teams to provide subject matter expertise and guidance for the assigned project.
Your day-to-day will include:
1. Responsibility for the management and delivery of design information in accordance with the agreed design programme and deliverable schedule.
2. Ensuring that our appointed design consultants carry out their duties in line with their appointment, interrogating returns to ensure compliance with standards and brief.
3. Design input at both pre-construction and construction stages of projects, assessing, mitigating, and managing risks connected with design.
4. Ensuring designs and design work meet health and safety legislation, sustainable building standards (such as BREEAM – the Building Research Establishment's Environmental Assessment Method), and industry codes of practice.
5. Chairing design meetings, writing reports, and giving presentations. The production of design programmes, design scopes, design responsibility matrices, appointments, schedules, record progress, and carry out upline reporting.
6. Ensuring that the design is compliant with relevant legislation and technical requirements.
What are we looking for?
This role of Senior Design Manager is great for you if you:
1. Hold a relevant qualification in Construction Management, Engineering, or Architecture discipline.
2. Have demonstrable experience in design within architecture or contractor environment.
3. Possess rounded knowledge of the design process, at commercial and construction design stages.
4. Demonstrate intimate understanding of the RIBA plan of work.
5. Have up-to-date knowledge of current building regulations.
