The opportunity
With a growing focus for Electric Vehicles (EV) applications Caterpillar is developing its own Lithium-Ion battery systems that will be used in almost all power ranges. The Battery Chemitronics Team is responsible for the Battery Management Software (BMS) strategies, integration and validation.
This team applies deep technical knowledge to develop control algorithms, assess software performance, BMS integration into machine applications, analyze battery data, review and sign-off to release BMS software updates to the field. This is a highly visible team that works directly with all areas of engineering.
As a Battery Software Controls and Integration Engineer, you will report to the section’s Engineering Manager and take your work direction from Tech Leads within the team. This role will be focused on developing, calibrating and validating BMS control strategies for a variety of Caterpillar and 3rd Party applications. You will also have responsibility for analysing large datasets for fault investigation, performance validation and general conformance against requirements. You will work directly with Caterpillar Machine Groups to ensure the BMS software integrates correctly with the machine.
What you will do:
* Convert high level system requirements into viable battery control strategies for down-selection
* Develop detailed control strategy requirements and algorithms using Matlab/Simulink controls modelling
* Calibrate and validate control strategies using embedded SIL models
* Develop test procedures to assess performance and validation of control strategies for HIL, Lab and machine testing
* Collaborate with machine level software teams to ensure the correct integration of control strategies
* Use your battery and controls knowledge to triage, diagnose and solve BMS software issues
* Automating processes to achieve high levels of quality, consistency and velocity
* Write requirements, procedures, and reports and formally present on outcomes.
* Collaborate closely with the global team.
What you have:
Technical Excellence - Level Working Knowledge:
