With a budget of around £365m, three hospitals and 5,500 staff, North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital-based services to the population of Hartlepool, Stockton on Tees and parts of East Durham and Sedgefield as well as community, therapeutic and screening to a wider population across Durham and Teesside.

An exciting opportunity has arisen as a clinical lead for our well-established ultrasound imaging service. The successful applicant will lead the day-to-day operational management of the service with responsibility for staffing and capacity. There will also be a requirement to ensure high-quality image provision to support the patient pathway. The post holder must be able to lead on strategic planning for the ultrasound service, with responsibility for the required clinical and performance targets. The post holder is expected to maintain their own level of clinical expertise, including independent vetting and reporting, in addition to teaching junior colleagues and Registrars.
Main duties of the job
* Excellent time management and organisational skills are required as well as established leadership skills for supporting staff both within and external to the department.
* Perform clinical duties to a high standard and act as an expert resource to staff requiring advice.
* Experience in dealing with patient complaints and governance would be beneficial, but training will be provided.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* To be able to perform clinical duties at a highly specialist level and be available as an expert resource for staff requiring advice.
* To identify staffing needs, managing holiday and lieu time whilst taking the most appropriate skill mix into consideration.
* To act as point of contact for discrepancies, complaints and claims, and implement changes in practice as required.
* Ensure best practice by keeping abreast of clinical/national guidance.
* Liaise regularly with Consultant Radiologist Lead in the development of protocols, CPD and extension of staff roles.
* To provide effective leadership and management to professional and support staff, ensuring consistency and standards of practice.
* Directly manage the service, dealing with managerial issues as they arise across all sites.
* Initiate and implement service change and improvement.
* To have significant input to business planning and lead in the procurement of new equipment as part of the equipment replacement programme.
* Responsibility for Ultrasound performance to include capacity and demand planning.
* To provide mentorship and support for the clinical team.
