ABOUT ZENOBE
Our goal is to make clean power accessible, to accelerate the shift to zero carbon power and transport.
We’re building and operating the world’s most sophisticated battery systems to enable the uptake of more renewable power and accelerating fleet electrification, de-risking the transition to zero-emission transport at scale. We’ve been consistently innovative since we were founded in 2017, achieving major industry firsts and using proprietary software and data analysis to optimise operational performance for our customers. At the end of their life, we repurpose electric vehicle batteries to provide clean power at depots, on construction sites and film sets.
Today we have 730 MW of grid scale battery storage operational and under construction and are the largest owner and operator of EV buses in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, supporting over 1,000 electric vehicles worldwide. In our first five years we have raised nearly £1.8 billion in funding and have expanded into other markets such as the US. Our rapidly growing company is looking for highly talented and motivated people to join us.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking to recruit a Principal Electrical Engineer who can bring an excellent understanding and proven record in the design of connections to the GB transmission system and who can manage and develop a team of junior engineers.
You will have an excellent understanding of the design and function of the main assets that comprise a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and its associated grid connection. However, experience with other technology types (e.g. solar or wind) is also beneficial.
The role requires excellent understanding of the main assets that make up a transmission connection project, how the electrical parameters of these assets are specified, and can review supplier design proposals, factory acceptance test results, and commissioning results to ensure Zenobe’s requirements have been met. Knowledge of BESS assets is beneficial.
As well as working on projects, youll spend half of your time managing a small team of electrical engineers to ensure competent electrical engineering representation across all our projects. This includes knowledge sharing and training of the team.
Youll work with Zenobe’s Engineering, Procurement, and Project Delivery teams to identify, refine, and implement consistent technical requirements that maximise the efficiency of our project and processes.
A TASTE OF THE DAY TO DAY
* Direct initial electrical design activities at the project development stage to support procurement activities.
* Work with transmission and distribution networks to develop physical and electrical specifications and designs for our connections.
* Accountable for the development of high quality Employer’s Requirement documents (technical aspects).
* Accountable for the review of detailed electrical design information from contractors and consultants, including challenging, where appropriate, contractor design and engineering deliverables to ensure Employer’s Requirements have been met.
* Managing the reviewing of factory acceptance testing and witnessing factory and site acceptance testing as required.
* Supporting the production of tender technical information for new services.
* Supporting the production of technical procurement documentation for the balance of plant, transformer, BESS, grid studies, and control system contracts.
* Support Zenobe’s Project Delivery team in coordination of 3rd party engineering support on the project including technical advisors and consultants.
* Provide support to Zenobe’s Project Delivery and Construction teams during project delivery and commissioning.
* Reviewing and responding to technical queries as required.
* Perform engineering tasks and implement engineering best practices.
* Management of Electrical Engineering team to ensure quality inputs across all projects.
* Define development plans for team members and carry out end of year performance management.
Health and Safety
* Actively contribute to Zenobes commitment to health and safety, wellbeing and sustainability by; integrating these principles into daily responsibilities, ensuring a safe and supportive work environment, promoting both the physical and mental health of self and colleagues, and adopting sustainable and energy-efficient practices to minimize environmental impact. By doing so, each employee at Zenobe plays a vital role in fostering a culture that prioritises overall safety, holistic wellbeing, and environmental sustainability in our business operations.
