Job Description
In Calderdale, there is a distinct lack of Alternative Provision, combined with post-pandemic challenges that have led to a significant number of permanent exclusions. In 2023, we took the bold decision to contribute significantly to being part of the solution to this issue. Last academic year, we opened a tier two provision called Trinity Academy Carlton Mill, initially for students attending our school. However, in line with our ambition to be part of a Calderdale solution, we are now opening this to students from other schools so that young people across the borough can benefit from the great work we are doing.
At Trinity Academy Carlton Mill, we work with children at risk of permanent exclusion to help them reintegrate back into a mainstream setting. We offer Trinity 14-week breakout placements for students in years 7 to 10 within Calderdale. The aim of each placement is to equip students to access mainstream education, working with each student on an individual basis to meet their needs. We collaborate with specialists and the referring academy or school to give students the best chance of successful reintegration.
We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Family Support Worker to liaise with relevant authorities, ensuring appropriate and effective support is offered to students and families in alternative settings, including undertaking Early Intervention Single Assessments.
What are we looking for?
1. 5 GCSE Grade A – C, including Maths and English, or equivalent
2. Willingness to engage in training to a level 3 standard qualification in Working with Parents or equivalent qualification
3. Willingness to participate in other development and training opportunities as identified
4. Experience of delivering individual or group-based support
5. Experience within education, social services/welfare, or the voluntary sector
6. Experience of working with students, parents, staff, and the local community
7. Experience of multi-agency working, preferably including childcare, health, and social care
8. Experience of community/voluntary/parent/partner agency links
In addition to the academic and personal development elements of our work, from April this year, we will also be home to an 'Alternative Provision Specialist Taskforce'. The taskforce takes a multi-agency approach to meet the needs of some of Calderdale's most vulnerable young people and includes:
1. EAL Engagement Officer
2. Educational Welfare Officer
3. Family Support Worker
4. Specialist Administrator
5. Reintegration Lead
6. Mental Health Counsellor
7. Youth Justice Worker
8. Substance Misuse Officer
9. Careers Advisor
10. Speech and Language Therapist
11. Educational Psychologist
Through daily interactions with students and being housed under the same roof, the taskforce will ensure access to the right support, in the right place, and at the right time.
