Role: Architectural Technician/ Technical Designer/ Principal Designer Location: Faversham, Kent Job Type: Full Time, Permanent Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 pension We’re on the lookout for a highly skilled, detail-oriented Technical Designer / Building Regulations, Principal Designer to join our design studio in Faversham. Specialising in pubs, restaurants and retail spaces, we deliver high-impact, experience-driven environments that marry creativity with technical excellence. As a key member of our team, you will bridge the gap between concept and construction—translating ambitious design visions into robust, buildable solutions. You’ll also play a vital role in our implementation of recent legislative changes, helping us maintain compliance, quality, and safety at every stage. Key Responsibilities Develop detailed technical drawing packages that support creative intent and construction practicality. Assess the design for practical construction, identifying potential issues with materials, methods, and construction sequences, and proposing solutions to ensure the project can be built efficiently and effectively. Ensure full compliance with UK Building Regulations and related legislation, including quality control of all drawing packages prior to issue. Support the implementation of new duty holder roles introduced under the Building Safety Act 2022 and The Building Regulations etc. (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2023. Provide Principal Designer (Building Regulations) services, guiding clients through their compliance responsibilities. Coordinate with external consultants and subcontractors, including structural engineers and Principal Designer (CDM), ensuring seamless integration across disciplines. Liaise with local authorities and regulatory bodies throughout planning and technical stages. Produce and manage technical information using AutoCAD (SketchUp and Adobe Suite are a plus). Contribute to tender and construction documentation, joinery detailing, lighting layouts, and specification writing. Provide technical support during site stages including inspections and contractor queries, including on site project management and attendance of site visits. Mentor team members and contribute to internal process improvements. What We’re Looking For: Qualification in Architectural Technology, Interior Architecture, or similar (HNC/HND or degree level). Experience delivering technical packages in commercial hospitality, retail, or commercial interiors sectors. In-depth understanding of UK Building Regulations, the Building Safety Act, and relevant compliance frameworks. Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office 365. Experience with Photoshop, InDesign, and SketchUp is a plus. Experience using ClickUp or similar project/task management software would be beneficial. Strong coordination and problem-solving abilities. High attention to detail, particularly in quality assurance and regulatory compliance. Team player with excellent communication skills and a proactive mindset. One day a week working from home
