The post is based at Leigh Infirmary within the day case unit. However, the successful candidate will be required to rotate across the theatre complexes, which will involve some internal rotation. The shifts will initially be weekdays, and upon completion of an in-house training programme, the person would be expected to work weekends and night shifts as part of their rota. It is a full-time role (37.5 hours) Monday to Sunday, and an Enhanced DBS with Children's & Adults' Barred List check will be required.
This post involves contact with patients and families face to face. Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that the postholder may come into contact with people who have COVID-19, although the Trust provides PPE and takes all reasonable steps to minimise risk.
Candidates will be expected to produce original certificates for qualifications at interview stage as per essential criteria on the person specification.

Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be expected to work within all areas of the operating theatre. These areas include escorting patients to and from theatre, assisting the theatre team during the operative period, cleaning and preparing theatre for the smooth progression of the operative list, and finally working in the receipt and dispatch area accepting, processing and using stock rotation techniques to maintain stock levels.
Job responsibilities
* Arrange for the transport and disposal of clinical, domestic, sensitive, and confidential waste in accordance with Trust Policy.
* Assist with the preparation, identification, recording, and dispatch of specimens from the theatre unit.
* Assist with the collection of blood and blood products.
* Participate in the management of supplies ensuring the theatre unit has sufficient levels of all essential supplies to meet service demands.
* Receive and dispatch sterile supplies ensuring HSDU/CSSD schedules are completed.
* Ensure that pharmacy stock items, including controlled drugs, are received and stored in accordance with COSHH and Trust guidance; any imbalance in stock is reported and addressed.
* Maintain the cleaning/decontamination and checking of all patient trolleys, including the additional oxygen and suction apparatus.
* Manage and maintain the stock of medical gas cylinders.
* Ensure that essential equipment is decontaminated and sterilised in line with Trust policy, reporting any defects to the person in charge of the department at the time.
* Transfer patients to and from theatre.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Evidence of basic level qualifications in Maths and English or able to demonstrate equivalent experience in a similar role.
Experience
* Experience of working in a patient care environment or hospital setting.

Knowledge
* Knowledge of individualized patient care delivery.
