Closing date: 11.59pm, 19 February 2025
Interview method: in person
This role is subject to:
* Qualification - Ilex Professional Diploma in Law (Level 3) or equivalent legal qualification
We are looking for a Legal Officer to join the Regulatory and Enforcement Services Team (Legal). One of the important functions of the team is to advise Manchester and Salford Councils in the area of enforcement and to undertake prosecutions in a wide range of areas on behalf of both Councils. The successful candidate will be responsible for case managing their own case load of low to medium complexity prosecution cases across a variety of areas including environmental crimes and non-school attendance prosecutions. This requires you to assess the evidence and issue proceedings if appropriate. The role also requires you to provide support to Solicitors in the team on more complex cases and to advise clients about investigations and the legal process of prosecutions. You will also brief Counsel, arrange and attend conferences and hearings with Counsel as directed by the Head or Deputy Head of the team.
About The Candidate
We are looking for a Legal Officer with an interest in enforcement work and with a keen eye for detail. In addition to holding an Ilex Professional Diploma in Law (Level 3) or equivalent legal qualification, you should also have familiarity with magistrates court work and the criminal process. The team works collaboratively and we are looking for a candidate who can work independently but is also somebody who works well as part of a team and is happy to assist others when needed.
