Our client based in Sedgefield are looking for a n experienced Shift Manager to join thei r team. The Shift Manager is responsible for managing a multidisciplined manufacturing unit covering five sections of the plant, reporting to the Production Manager.
Main Duties
M anage the shift and all direct staff on site, as well as indirect staff .
To take full responsibility of the quality of product that is produced within the shift in line with the Companies quality systems, processes and procedures, and to ensure all quality records are maintained in line with Company Quality and BRC policies.
To monitor the production output of the shift against the production plan, targeting the achievement of planned volume per machine per shift. Any variances from the plan to be reported via the daily Production meeting.
To control and measure production wastage for each shift, particularly during changeovers and design changes, minimizing wastage wherever possible.
Changeovers and quality check sheets.
Carry out all checks, audits, paperwork and line clearance required by the company BRC/Quality system.
Liaise and coordinate with support functions to progress issues concerning production planning and resource/skill allocation to ensure orders produced on time.
Complete and monitor IT manufacturing system, ensuring accurate information from all relevant shift personnel.
Be able to make appropriate decisions during nightshifts and weekends.
Have a proactive approach to production, identifying and proposing changes which can lead to improvements in terms of efficiency, wastage, ways of working, quality, safety, housekeeping and the production environment.
Manage, develop and motivate direct reporting staff, identifying training requirements.
G ood communication skills, verbally or written.
Problem solving and trouble shooting skills .
Completion of return to work and shift allocation coordination.
Conduct disciplinar ies and data records .
R elevant report ing on downtime, wastag e, output and maintenance issues. To ensure a smooth shift handover.
Prior to the end of the shift, completion of housekeeping checks.
Cover the operating of machines as and when required and provide support to operators throughout the shift.
To maintain the smooth running of all manufacturing areas ensuring health and safety, quality standards, and operational KPIs are achieved in line with the companys expectation.
Required knowledge, skills or experience
Experience in managing a diverse team of approximately 25 employee s.
Experience working in a fast - paced manufacturing environment and working shifts .
Have a minimum of 3 years proven experience and/or a n ILM Level 3 or 5 qualification (or equivalent) would be an advantage
Experience working in a high mass volume manufacturing environment as a Shift Supervisor or within an equivalent capacity .
Experience within the plastic industry is desirable however not essential.

Location: Sedgefield
Hours of work:
24/7, 12-hour shift pattern comprising of 3 shifts on and 3 shifts off, alternating between dayshifts and nightshifts, rotating 3 weeks of 36 and 3 weeks of 48 hours, averaging 42 hours per week.
Salary:
The salary will depend upon experience and will range from £36,000 to £37,700, which is available for payment on a weekly or monthly basis. The position is an hourly paid rate (starting on £16. 0 5 and rising to £17.30). Overtime is at a premium rate of 1.25.
