The post-holder will act as a deputy to the Band 7 Perinatal Mental Health Midwife Specialist Midwife (PNMH MW) to meet their responsibility to lead Perinatal mental health and social support to all service users.
Work under the guidance of the Perinatal mental health specialist Midwife offer specialist advice on all aspects of antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal mental health support to women and health professionals. Assist the PNMH MW in counselling and supporting women and their families throughout the maternity care journey.
They will support the maternity team in maintaining high standards of perinatal mental health care, working closely with named midwives, obstetricians, universal services, secondary mental health services and third sector agencies to facilitate integrated working and promote safe, excellent care. This will include supporting the planning of care for women with other complex social factors including substance misuse, migrant women, teenage pregnancy, domestic abuse, significant learning difficulties and learning disability by linking with a wide range of other agencies.
Thepostholderwill work alongside the Perinatal mental health specialist midwife and in her absence deputize for the specialist Midwife (PNMH MW), under supervision of the Named Midwife for Safeguarding.
Support the maternity team in providing care for women with complex mental health needs, by offering advice and guidance on care planning and multi-professional working.
Provide maternity and mental health assessments based on specialist knowledge, in all aspects of perinatal mental health and complex social factors.
Ensuringthat maternity teams follow requirements in respect of safeguarding children, young people, vulnerable adults and the Think Family agenda.
Manage complex problems at the request of other midwives/professionals and present relevant but detailed clinical information when updating colleagues. Such support may be provided in person on QEHKL wards/antenatal clinic/community midwifery hubs and remotely to named midwives.
Maintain a sound knowledge of Child Protection policies and procedures in relation to the risks to an unborn/newborn baby regarding complex mental health needs and comply with child protection requirements in accordance with QEHKL Safeguarding Policy.
