Registered Nurse - Blood Donation (Central South)

Your role with us will provide you with the opportunity to work alongside a Band 6 Nurse to apply and develop your valuable professional clinical knowledge. You will also develop your leadership skills to successfully deliver and contribute to continuous service improvements. Working in a fast-moving and variable environment, this essential role in the collection of blood and blood products will directly contribute to saving and improving patients' lives.
Main duties of the job
As a Registered Nurse, you will use your clinical skills and knowledge to assess donor suitability to donate, ensuring donor and product safety, in line with regulatory and governance standards. Duties include:
1. Supporting the Sister/Charge Nurse in organising session activities to ensure staff, donor, and product safety.
2. Obtaining and maintaining proficiency in all core blood/component collection skills including venepuncture.
3. Acting quickly and immediately in the event of emergencies or unexpected events on the session.
4. Being responsible for assessment, planning, provision, maintenance, and evaluation of donor care, in line with NMC and NHSBT codes of conduct.
5. Leading by example and providing guidance to the collection team to deliver excellent donor care and service.
6. Communicating confidently and effectively any clinical/operational issues that may require escalation.
7. Travelling between Blood Donation Centres and community venues in a timely manner during the working day.
You will not be required to work night shifts, but you will need to work variable hours including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
* Evidence of commitment to continued learning and development.
* Completion of training for additional clinical skills including venepuncture and Basic Life Support (BLS).
* Willingness and ability to develop management, coaching, and mentoring skills.
* Demonstrates commitment to continued professional development (CPD).
* Ability to travel between Blood Donation Centres and community venues.
Experience
* Understanding of patient safety initiatives and risk management.
* Competence in the use of computers and electronic communication systems.
* Understanding of the importance of good customer care and the ability to respond to service users' needs.
