How you'll make a difference
Safe, secure and lawful use of data is vital to the delivery of the council’s services. Providing a high level of legal and technical expertise, you will support the council to meet its responsibilities for data protection, information security governance and information sharing.
What you will be doing
* Working across the council’s departments and with its partners and stakeholders, you will be the go-to expert for information governance, data protection governance and privacy for the council, promoting best practice and compliance requirements.
* You will be the primary point of contact for the ICO, surveillance commissioner and other statutory offices working in the field of data protection and information governance.
* Working with the council’s data protection officer, SIRO and caldicott guardian be the primary point of contact for all matters referred to the Information Commissioners Office.
* Liaising with departmental representatives, information asset owners, ICT security and assistants across the council, you will support with the systems in operation to ensure a consistent and effective approach to data governance.
* You will develop and maintain the suite of standards and policies (internal and external) required to ensure its ongoing compliance with all aspects of data protection and information governance.
* Carrying out periodic audits on compliance with data protection, information security and information sharing, you will recommend corrective actions and develop and deliver council-wide data protection and information governance training programmes.
What we need from you
* You must hold a relevant degree qualification or equivalent level of theoretical working knowledge and work experience.
* We require you to have substantial experience of data protection, information governance and security and related professional issues.
* It is essential that you have a working knowledge of legislation affecting data protection and freedom of information, such as the common law duty of confidentiality, re-use of public sector information regulations, the Crime and Disorder Act, Human Rights Act and the European Commission directive on data protection.
* You will have experience of working at a senior level, managing service delivery.
* To be successful in the role, you will have the ability to provide pro-active, pragmatic, cost-effective, solutions-based advice and outcomes and be able to persuade others and influence outcomes critical to the organisation.
